We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelcie Small. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelcie below.
Chelcie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
I am passionate about real estate investments. As a minority, there really is so much wealth strategy to be learned. Im invested in helping the underserved on their journey to build real estate portfolios.
I bring my executive support background with me- providing top-tier support to each client, every time.
I’m always there to help my clients through their unknowns related to equity, financing and being a landlord!
Chelcie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always had a passion for architecture, even majoring in Interior Architecture and Design in college. But a mentor of mine who was licensed sparked my interest in Real Estate years ago. I studied for a while in my free-time, though my love for problem-solving held my attention. Until COVID-19 brought the two passions together. With COVID, a number of minorities faced the housing crisis, making homeownership a more important goal than ever. So I decided to jump in and get licensed the summer of 2021 to help drive homeownership for the underserved.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I studied for my Real Estate exam for six years, at probably 5 different training “schools”, but I never felt confident enough to take the exam.
Nonetheless, I decided to take the leap during COVID. I scheduled the exam for 3 months later, invested in new materials, hardware, and a tutor… and decided to put everything aside for the last month. Apart from working out, I studied around the clock… and I passed the exam on my first try.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being a realtor has taught me to let go of my attachment to the outcome of an investment. In business, you will constantly have to invest in yourself. Often times, we do this expecting a very specific return, but that’s an employee mentality.
It’s best to trust that your investment will turn out in your favor / (or a calculated range if we are talking property) , rather than expecting it to bring you something precise.
