We recently connected with Chef Lamont Ferrebee Jr and have shared our conversation below.
Chef Lamont, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I want people to remember me for creating a new path for my people to be successful and happy—opening avenues and helping them think outside the box. Also, there’s no shame in having help doing something with a team, and allowing the accolades to be spread out allows for continued success over long periods, which I feel creates generational wealth. My team and I at Maji Water LLC And Eat Strong LLC are grinding to be the new leaders of the culinary industry Maji Water is our first project. Still, it is far from our last we are blessed to share this product with Atlanta as our ground zero and operation headquarters.
Chef Lamont, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My main objective was to become a chef. While attending Culinary school, that idea transformed into much more that’s when I decided to get into the water business and the food and beverage industry. One of my teachers gave us a lecture about what makes money in this industry, and water became a part of the discussion. After the lecture, it wouldn’t leave my head. I couldn’t stop thinking, what if I could make my water brand? After three months, I started to research and do my due diligence. I’ve had to learn a new industry discipline and create a product from scratch. It’s been challenging at times, but it’s worth it. We’re here to help do our part for the planet and our fellow human beings. Our water is a Ph level of 7, which we call Alkaline neutral, a balanced pure, natural version of spring water. We also sell our water in aluminum cans which are recycled on an average of 68%, and about only 3 % of plastic is recycled in America, which is horrible on a grand scale, especially with so much plastic around. This is a war against plastic which will make us as human beings have to be more creative I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish in this arena as far as the human race.
Eat Strong LLC will and is my flagship company we will be launching several products in the next year, from Tea products to popcorn, etc then eventually into the nondairy sector finding clever ways to create amazing products without traditional milk. Being Chef will help take these businesses to the next level.
The thing I’m most proud of so far is the support that Atlanta has given my small company as grow we would love to give back to the people in this city create jobs donate water and food. We’ve already started on a small scale, but if anyone can help us be more involved in the community, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We initially started with 24 packs of water; now you can imagine that these boxes were pretty heavy 24 160z bottles filled with water are about 22 pounds which is considerably expensive to ship. So we had to get creative, breaking the 24 packs down to four packs which we are launching in the next two weeks since we weren’t buying thousands of boxes at this time; we also had to figure out a creative way to get boxes without spending a lot of money, so we decided to create our packages in-house to get around the cost. In business, things will come up, obstacles and you have to figure out how to pivot. Always be prepared and always stay strategic.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my business partners as kids; we grew up with each other we know each other. With that comes respect and honesty that you can’t buy. I don’t know what I would do without my business partners. Delano Brown and one of our new partners, my cousin Maurice Avery. We all bring something different to the table, which helps this company work.
