We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chef James Rucker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chef James below.
Chef James , appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Chef James Rucker started his professional culinary journey with his family’s business, the Rucker BBQ Trailer in Houston, Texas, at the age of seven. This provided his initial experience in serving customers and developing his passion for American cuisine.
Later, in 2004, after formal culinary training and working under several acclaimed chefs, he founded his own business, J&M Barbeque & Catering (JMBC & Co).
The initial clients for this venture are not explicitly named as average citizens, but the business quickly gained a reputation that led to serving high-profile clients through word-of-mouth and networking.
According to Rucker, his name and company grew over time, and “everyone wanted food”.
His first celebrity clients included individuals like:
Paul Wall
Johnny Dang (Tv Johnny)
Rick Ross
Floyd Mayweather
GoldToes (GT DISTRIBUTION)
CStone The Breadwinner
Shock G
One source mentions a specific first client for a meal prep service named Royce Martin in a Facebook post, which might refer to a specific service offered later in his career. However, his catering business success is primarily linked to high-profile individuals and celebrities who spread the word about his food.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

This acquisition was made to establish Hope Haven, a facility designed for his non-profit foundation, JMBC Giving. Atlanta (Georgia)
