Alright, Chef Bob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
In the summer of 2010, I began with a simple quest: finding an exceptional cup of coffee in the United States, and it proved elusive for me. By the summer of 2014, I took the “grounds into my own hands.” Drawing on my culinary background, I embarked on a mission to craft coffee unlike any other. By sourcing the finest single-origin beans from around the globe and connecting with a master coffee roaster, Chef Bob’s Coffee was born. People have called it “the best damn cup of coffee they’ve ever had.”
My commitment extends beyond great coffee and flavor; I embrace supporting entrepreneurs and small, family-owned businesses worldwide. Every purchase of Chef Bob’s Coffee aids the smallest coffee farmers, and supports a local family-owned importer and a small, family business in Hye, Texas, providing Bourbon barrels for aging beans. These collaborations create a ripple effect of support, empowering over five small family businesses, including my own, to pursue the American dream. It’s a source of immense pride knowing each morning cup contributes to this shared commitment.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Chef Bob “CB” Aungst, a native of New England with roots in New Jersey. I kickstarted my culinary journey in upstate New York after a successful stint in real estate. While pursuing an interest in owning an inn, I earned a Culinary Arts degree from Schenectady College. During the program, I accepted an internship at the Kentucky Derby, where I quickly learned the ropes of large-scale event and food & beverage management.
As a distinguished VIP celebrity chef, I specialize in curating memorable culinary experiences for private events and gatherings. With a flair for sophistication and a keen eye for the art of luxury dining, I transform each occasion into a masterpiece that transports guests to an unforgettable place. From intimate soirées to grand celebrations, I elevate every event, leaving an indelible mark with my interactive culinary delights and personalized touch.
Building on my extensive culinary expertise and passion for excellence, I launched Chef Bob’s Coffee. Every bag is crafted by the skilled hands of a Master Roaster, ensuring that each cup of coffee meets my high standards. The single-origin beans undergo a meticulous process, including bourbon barrel aging for select roasts, creating a unique and rich flavor profile. Each bag of Chef Bob’s Coffee not only offers a premium coffee experience but also supports sustainable practices and small family farms, reflecting my commitment to excellence in every aspect of my culinary ventures.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020, like many others, I faced an unexpected pivot due to the shutdown of all face-to-face events and gatherings. Prior to the pandemic, my primary focus was on creating memorable culinary experiences for private events and gatherings. However, with everyone suddenly confined to their homes, there was a significant shift in how people engaged with food and beverage.
Recognizing this change, I decided to pivot my focus to coffee. With the increased trend of online ordering and the growing desire for high-quality, artisan products, I saw an opportunity to expand offerings and launch my own line of artisan coffee. The inspiration came from the craft brewery scene, specifically their creative canned artwork. We translated this idea into coffee, featuring unique art on our coffee bags. This not only highlighted the premium quality of our beans but also created a visually appealing product that resonated with consumers, and put the work of some really great artists in the hands of new collectors.
Additionally, we introduced virtual coffee tastings, which allowed us to connect with coffee enthusiasts in a new and engaging way. These virtual tastings provided an interactive platform for people to learn about our coffee, the process for properly tasting coffee, and the stories behind each roast, all from the comfort of their homes while feeling connected with their colleagues and friends during an unprecedented time.
This pivot to coffee and the introduction of virtual experiences were met with incredible enthusiasm, and Chef Bob’s Coffee quickly gained traction. Our commitment to quality, combined with the innovative approach to coffee bag artwork and virtual tastings, helped us create a new, successful branch of our business during a challenging time.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped us build a strong reputation within the coffee market is a combination of several key factors that resonate deeply with our clients and customers.
First and foremost, the sustainability of our beans and packaging plays a significant role. Our coffee is sourced from small, family-owned farms that prioritize ethical and sustainable farming practices. This commitment to sustainability extends to our packaging as well, with compostable materials that reduce our environmental impact. Clients in our White Label program particularly appreciate these efforts, as they align with their own values and contribute to their brand’s appeal. Unlike other programs, our White Label program is fully customizable; we take our brand off entirely, allowing our clients to tailor everything from the roast profile to the packaging design, ensuring the final product aligns perfectly with their brand’s identity.
The White Label program itself has been impactful for converting sales, serving as a powerful tool for sales enablement. Our clients see the value in offering a premium, customized product that speaks to their audience. This program not only enhances their brand image but also drives their sales growth, creating a win-win situation.
