We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chef! a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chef!, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
For the better part of the past year, I had been working on a collection of music that I knew would be special to be as soon as I started. The end result? “MUNCHIES!”, a 10 track mixtape with a diverse array of sounds and emotion. I sat at my desk, in my room, every single day, forcing myself to write and express myself. It can be torture, staring into the void and reaching in, not knowing if you have what it takes to extract something beautiful. September 14th, 2024, the day I could finally show everyone the journey.

Chef!, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is chef! I am an artist and event organizer, founder of the C.A.M.P (Come And Make Peace) Entertainment Group. For 5+ years, our goal has been to build a foundational structure for local artists to perform, create, and grow with one another. This year, October 4th, we’ll have our 3rd annual CAMP & FRIENDS music festival, a one day event to platform independent musicians and connect them with their community.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
It would be nice to have the ability to lock in on ONE specific goal in life, especially when the journey itself can be so unpredictable; however, there is always an ambiguous mission that seems to keep us going. For me, that mission is to discover new ways for people to communicate their creative minds, to bring resources to those who have been doing without.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The number one problem facing every single young creative today is lack of resources. The best way to support those around you is easy; go to their events, pay for their products/services, share their accomplishments and stories; in doing this, one can be the catalyst of change in another’s life while enjoying the process with them.
