We were lucky to catch up with Cheeko Fue recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheeko, thanks for joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
It’s funny that people think work starts or stops with creation when actually work never stops. I remember in the beginning I used to spend my money to be part of the independent music scene, then there was a time where it was free for me to be a part then I started getting paid. When you move up in the ranks of anything it becomes different but always remember with money comes problems. One benefit of spending your own money to pursue happiness is that you get to make your own decisions and take your own risk without involving knowone to stress about or over. You get the final say so. I’ve turned down hundreds of thousands of dollars because that wasn’t enough and I’ve accepted minimal thousands because my sanity and peace is worth more than a dollar. Ultimately you are responsible for the way your life turns out.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It started when I was a baby , even before I was born is where I hit my strengths from. For some who may or may not believe in the spiritual realm I was cursed in my mother’s whomb, a cancer survivor out the stomach. Also my mother walked in the snow to deliver me when her water broke. I’ve always been built different and god has always had a hand in me being here. I was on MTV at 16 19 my first arena (War Memorial Arena) 20/21 Showtime at the Apollo, I’ve performed infront of 30,000 and 25 it’s all the same feelings for me. My family is all island people and in the business but we never recieved any handouts. We was the first ones out of our area to go on independent tours and coming out of our own pockets. Illinoise, STL, Nashville, Atl, New Jersey.. not just Dade, Broward , Palm Beach or Florida. It was always a bigger picture for us. Micah PH.d, Jason a doctor, Cash the best producer in Florida, Taji signed to Kodak Black. We have always been and will always be relevance.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
“I used to sell dope, now I sell hope” I’ve beat cancer, death, and prison. I’ve been shot, set up and snitched on! My whole story from top to bottom reeks with resilience and I’m still here. Giving back the community through philanthropy and with a smile,

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I think that knowing what the resources actually were vs. having to dig them out of a well would of did more justice and then being able to utilize them not just having them but not able to cash in on them would matter the most.
