We were lucky to catch up with Chaz Offutt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chaz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
When I first started with Frenchies, the breed hadn’t yet reached the level of popularity it has today. I adopted Chaz, my first Frenchie, because we shared a unique connection, our name. Later, I brought in African Journey, and together they became the foundation of my program. This was especially meaningful to me because I had once taken an evangelistic journey to Africa to spread the message of God’s love. Carrying that same spirit forward, my mission and vision became to bring this love into homes through my dogs and my business Pawtners Kennel

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My love for animals began in childhood, when I spent hours watching nature and wildlife programs. One Christmas, I was gifted a dog I named Cricket. Her boundless energy and strong will were more than I could manage at that age, but she sparked a lifelong passion for working with dogs.
Over the years, I cared for friends’ and family members’ pets, walking and boarding them whenever I could. Eventually, I adopted my own Staffordshire Terrier, Doja, who reminded me of Cricket. A chance encounter with a neighbor’s dog led to Doja’s first litter, and that experience became the turning point that inspired me to establish my kennel in 2022.
Since then, my mission has been clear: to provide both quality breeding and dedicated care. I expanded my services to include whelping and show training, supporting colleagues who entrusted me with their dams and litters for eight weeks at a time. With the help of trusted veterinary connections, I ensured every dog received the care and attention they deserved.
My brand gained national attention when I promoted it at Sneaker Con’s 15th anniversary in Washington, D.C. A video from that day went viral, reaching over 11 million views across platforms. While that spotlight was significant, my proudest moment came in the show ring—winning first place with a 13-week-old puppy at only my second show, competing against older dogs and seasoned handlers.
These milestones, both personal and professional, reflect the heart of my vision: blending passion with expertise to bring love, quality, and excellence into the homes of every family we serve.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I reached out to platinum recording artist Shy Glizzy to team up with his new kennel, Glizzy Dog Club—and the partnership became legendary. We co-own Rose, one of his top-producing females, who produced the exotic Frenchie superstar Pink Slime (sired by Pinky). Pink Slime has already brought in over six figures, making waves in the Frenchie world, and I couldn’t be more excited for what Rose’s next litter has in store.
Can you talk to us about your experience with selling businesses?
The Black men and women in my family have been a powerful influence in shaping my entrepreneurial spirit. My grandfather, Edward Offutt, though not formally educated, built a stable home for his wife and children and instilled that same drive in me before his passing. His legacy continued through his children, who also pursued success in business and creativity. My aunt owned a salon called Seven Wonders, while my father launched a film production company named Coffee. Watching them take risks to create opportunities for themselves inspired me deeply and ultimately guided me toward my own entrepreneurial journey.
