We recently connected with Chauna Bryant and have shared our conversation below.
Chauna, appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
After three years of being an all-virtual training, Breath Liberation Society hosted its first retreat in the mountains of Pennsylvania. It was pure magic. People flew in from all over the US and even one person from the UK. it was so inspiring to see how everyone gelled together. Many of the participants had studied together for years and this was their first time meeting in real life. Our first retreat lit a fire in my mind and helped to shape our future programming. In 2024 we are going to offer more in-person training experiences for the entire Breath Liberation Society community.

Chauna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Chauna Bryant, a multidisciplinary entrepreneur and writer. I am a lover of sunshine, pitbull puppies, and lifting heavy weights.
I have roots in movement I was a gymnast as a child, I have been a Pilates instructor since 2008, and continue to see clients virtually.
While on a mission to get out of a personal rut, I found Breathwork, an active form of meditation that uses breathing patterns to induce a meditative state.
Breathwork had a profound impact on my life, and I wanted to share it with others. I learned to facilitate breathwork, in 2018. As I learned more about the Breathwork industry, I noticed a lack of diversity, in participants and facilitators. I saw a need for training options that featured diverse voices and lived experiences, so I founded a school. Breath Liberation Society now runs a 400-hr Breathwork training, that includes virtual learning and optional in-person retreats. In addition to the training Breath Liberation Society offers community-based programming including half-day summits, in-person intensives, and free monthly Breathwork.
The proudest moments in my business come when I get to witness students stand firmly in their power and lead their first Breathwork group. When I get messages from my students’ clients, raving about their experiences. My proudest moments are when I get to experience the awesome community that has been formed around the simple act of breathing.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One. When I first started my Breathwork school, I tried to perform on the same level as my peers. As a self-funded, solo-entrepreneur. I thought that I had to have perfect graphics and polished marketing materials I tried to be everywhere at once. I burned out big time. Now, with hindsight, I realize that many of my peers have entire teams of people! And that most of the other schools have taken years, decades even to be built. I have learned to move at my speed and to set realistic expectations around my productivity and growth Two. I had to learn that I am capable of doing sh*t on the internet. It sounds silly, but before starting a virtual training program, I would have described myself as “tech-challenged”. I would get frustrated easily, and count myself out. It has taken years, to develop the skills but I feel confident doing most things in my business. Does it take me longer than I would like? Yes, but I address the task at hand, start watching YouTube videos and tutorials through whatever site I am working on, and figure it out. I will and have hired a specialist when it makes sense but otherwise, being able to do things myself has been a major confidence builder.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When I started Breath Liberation Society, I knew I needed to decentralize my voice from day one. In spiritual spaces, there is a tendency to deify the leader. To counteract a possible “healer” effect I invited my friends, colleagues, and later prominent voices in the Breathwork field to participate in the training through recording lectures and interviews. A wonderful side effect of these interviews was a strong grassroots marketing campaign. I think creating a more collective learning experience helped everyone feel more invested. The guest teachers shared about the training with their communities. I gained trust and had a much larger reach and impact.
