We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chasity Snow a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chasity thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I believe that happiness is a temporary feeling that stems from events or experiences. Personally, I strive for a deeper sense of joy rather than fleeting happiness. As a business owner, I feel fulfilled and passionate about serving others. I have worked various jobs in the past, including driving a school bus, dispatching, working in a call center, and retail. However, nothing compares to the sense of purpose I feel as an entrepreneur. When you work for yourself, you are accountable to your customers and yourself, which motivates me to keep pushing forward. I cannot imagine returning to a traditional job.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In 2017, I published my debut book titled ‘Did You Think I’d Crumble.’ At the time, I believed I had made a breakthrough, but in hindsight, I was merely standing at the door. While working on my writing, I realized the importance of acquiring new skills and tools, and thus learned how to use Canva, built websites and assisted my publisher with various tasks. I was like a sponge, soaking up everything I could. A year later, I quit my job to focus on writing full-time. However, a few friends would seek my assistance from time to time, which eventually led to me starting a virtual assistance business.
As I ventured down this path, I realized that some of my clients were not adequately prepared because they lacked a brand and a message. As a result, the tasks I performed for them seemed futile. So, I shifted gears and began coaching. One of the things I love about myself is my ability to pivot and adapt. I identify a need and fulfill it without hesitation. I am not afraid to take risks or challenge myself. I believe in a holistic approach, which is what sets me apart from others. For instance, I can manage your email marketing, but I also want to teach you how to nurture your brand and provide you with the correct mindset if necessary. In my opinion, coaching should have a mind and body connection.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Before 2015, as a single parent, I had grown accustomed to settling for just enough. Although I had always yearned for more, survival was my top priority. This mindset translated into my coaching prices, which were set at the bare minimum. However, I realized that my goal should not be limited to mere survival but to thrive. Therefore, I had to unlearn this behavior and strive for greater success. I had to charge my worth.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
In addition to collaborating with a social media strategist, I dedicated substantial effort towards comprehending my target audience and their persona. I made sure to gain a thorough understanding of their likes and dislikes. Interestingly, this task didn’t prove to be overly challenging. A significant portion of my audience coincides with my own self before becoming a published author. They are readers who possess the ability and desire to express their own life experiences. They just don’t know how but they know they want to experience the feeling of saying, “I’m an Author.”
