Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chasity Putman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chasity , appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My journey into yoga and energy healing started with a live changing decision followed by a series of unfortunate events. It was the year that I decided to end my 7 year relationship with my oldest daughters father. After that decision the entire year seamed to unravel. The landlady of the house I rented discovered she had stage 4 breast cancer and needed to sell immediately, my mother remarried despite pleads against the marriage, and my little brother passed away not 4 days after our mothers wedding in a motorcycle accident. It was the worst year of my life and a massive turning point for me. My already lingering depression from my past relationship I was trying to recover from caused me to completely shut down. Than through a few not so wise decisions I discovered I was with child. That beautiful, unexpected life growing inside of me was that perfect spark to pull me out of my dormant state and turn my depression around. With that spark I found a new apartment, got myself a new car, and my step mom introduced me to energy healing. She not only used it to help me overcome and heal but she also taught me how to help others as well. My love for yoga started around the same time when I came across a Yoga with Adriene video on YouTube. That was the turning point in my career. Of course, my actual career didn’t start until a couple years later. This all happened 9 years ago.
Chasity , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Energy healing came first with the introduction to it by my step mom Teresa and her business Rei Light Healing in my hometown of Findlay. She had been doing Reiki on me for a few years with the passing of my grandpa. Reiki really helped me deal with the grief of his loss. Reiki is the channeling of life force energy by what they call “laying of hands”, which means to either hover hands above or to lightly touch. The practitioner is simply a conductor and channels pure energy into a person or object. What this does is helps to balance out the energy within the person or object. This method helps by allowing the body and mind to relax to promote natural healing and wellness.
After the passing of my brother my step mom introduced to me a process called Access Bars. What this process does is helps people to release negative energy that has been pent up and stored within the conscious mind. This is done by simply accessing different points on the head with light touches to open channels for release. The practitioner has no control over what is released, they are simply opening up channels for the individual. This process has been known to help with past trauma, depression, anxiety, and other kinds of mental illnesses.
It is my theory that a lot of our physical issues come from some kind of negative emotion or thoughts. For example, it is common with nervousness to have a stomach issues like queasiness, gas, or diarrhea. It’s theorized that we have energy points located throughout the body known as the chakras. These energy points are said to move like vortexes. There appears to be a relationship with how well these energy points are moving and the medical issues located around that specific point. So to put this into context, the negative emotion of nervousness seems to cause the Solar Plexus chakra (located around the area of the stomach) to either slow its movement or stop altogether. When this happens, medical conundrums such as queasiness, gas, and diarrhea appear to start happen. On the other side of this, individuals who appear to be happier with little to know depression or anxiety, seem to have fewer health issues.
The energy healing sessions that I provide are a blend of Access Bars and Reiki. It is in rare occasions where I will do just one or the other. This is due to my theory that negative emotions are in direct relationship to physical issues. So my sessions are about helping the client to release any negative energy they may have with Access Bars, than going through and providing Reiki to help balance out the energy that the negative thoughts created.
Yoga on the other hand is a complete lifestyle. It is not just the physical practice that you see all over the internet. When I started yoga I had no idea of the complexity of it. Yoga is about discipline of the body and the mind to become more connected with the spirit. Yoga is meditation and awareness of the body and the mind. My first in person yoga class did not occur until after I had the idea of wanting to become a yoga teacher. The reason I took the in person class is because I wanted to meet the teacher that was holding the teacher training I was interested in. That first class was so mind blowing for me that it cemented my decision and I registered the next day. My yoga teacher really has a great way of connecting all aspects of yoga into her classes. There is so much learning to be had with yoga and it all has to do with the self and growth. My teacher was/is Kara Lough and my training was at a studio that is no longer open called Pai Yoga & Fitness. She has many years of experience and is completely emerged in her yoga practice. My classes on the other hand are mostly about the physical aspect with a focus on beginners and alignment in the poses. Sometimes I throw in some knowledge about yoga philosophy but since I am still learning and growing myself there isn’t a big presence of it in my classes.
Overall I love to educate and help people feel better in all aspects of their lives. I truly believe in what I do and their benefits. With my energy healing I’ve helped a little boy of 11 come into himself and eliminate some of his fears. This boy went from being incredibly shy and unable to sleep on his own, to trying out for the school play and sleeping in his own room. I’ve also helped people with migraines, depression, anxiety, and people with MS with their pain management. With yoga I’ve noticed vast changes in my students body-mind connection, their strength, and their flexibility. My favorite is when my students request reading material to learn more about philosophy and adopting the yoga lifestyle. Seeing the positive changes in my clients and students is what keeps me motivated and moving forward in my business.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely would have chosen this same profession. In all honestly I wish I would have started much sooner, it would have definitely led to better decision making skills and a much different life than the one I have now. But then you can’t really grow and learn with out some obstacles right?
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Experience, practice, and meditation. Experience of course is another form of knowledge but its more of a real life knowledge by just living. Practice is helpful in both energy healing and yoga. You can practice being mindful of your own emotions and reactions which helps your ability to help and heal others. Meditation is like practice, going into yourself and finding a sense of calm on your own with out some kind of outside assistance.
