We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chasity Edwards. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chasity below.
Chasity, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk about keeping costs under control when growing. How have you managed to keep costs from getting out of control?
Drawing from my experience growing The TigerChazz, I’ve come to understand that investing is essential to generating returns. For example, our merchandise strategy is twofold: certain items are designed for giveaways to increase listener engagement, while others are intended for purchase by supporters who believe in our movement. I recognize that people typically don’t spend $25 or more on things they don’t genuinely care about. Therefore, I view merchandise as an artist’s tip jar, where thoughtful investment can lead to a meaningful return. However, I strongly believe in the importance of having a well-considered plan before spending. While plans may evolve over time, establishing a solid foundation is crucial.
Chasity, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is TigerChazz. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but many of my formative years were spent in Atlanta, Georgia. As a military child, I had the opportunity to experience life in different places, but Atlanta holds a special place in my heart. I married my high school sweetheart, and together we have two beautiful daughters.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother, with her angelic voice, and my biological father, a well-known figure in Ohio’s music scene, surrounded me with a wealth of talent from an early age. My father featured me on one of his demos when I was a child, sparking my love for recording music. I gained live experience singing in choirs and participating in various talent shows. During my time at Grand Canyon University, where I studied Dance Education, I had the honor of singing the national anthem at several sporting events, even performing from a wheelchair after breaking my leg.
After leaving GCU due to medical reasons, I leaned heavily on music and dance as therapy. Though physically I felt broken, my voice remained strong. I focused on my recovery and education, but my passion for music never wavered. It was during this time that I met Jemond G., the praise and worship leader at my church. I shared with him my desire to pursue music more seriously, and he helped me produce and record my first single, “Take It Back.” This marked the beginning of my journey as a performing artist.
I’ve had the privilege of performing at venues and events such as The City Hub, Oskar Blues, Chinook Center Jam Session Fundraiser, Southern Colorado Juneteenth Festival (2022 and 2023), and Night of Magnificence New Year’s Eve at Sunshine Studios. Additionally, I’ve sung with Story Church and Greater Works Church, and contributed to Cory Ard’s Tapestry Worship recording. Currently, I serve as the Praise and Worship Director at Greater Works Church, where I lead worship with passion and dedication.
My goal is to spread my love for creativity through my music. I strive to take my listeners on a journey, evoking memories of happy moments and exploring the many stages of love. I want my fans and listeners to know that I genuinely love to sing. Being able to connect with an audience and make them feel understood is something I cherish deeply. I am most proud of my work ethic, which has kept me on the path to success despite the challenges I’ve faced.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Non-creatives may struggle to grasp just how much time and effort goes into being an artist in its entirety. The creative journey involves inviting people into various aspects of your life, which requires constant dedication. After finishing my day job, I immediately transition into my roles as a musician and a mother—responsibilities that never truly pause. When inspiration strikes, whether through lyrics or a particular vibe, I have to act on it immediately to capture and develop the idea.
One of the more challenging aspects of being an artist is maintaining a social media presence without revealing too much of my personal life. It requires careful balance. For creatives, it’s difficult to step away from ideas that we want to spend endless hours perfecting. It’s tough to explain that my passion for music doesn’t overshadow my love for my family or other responsibilities. However, I often think to myself, “The world appreciates this version of me because I make music. Without it, I’m not sure what version of myself you would be left with.”
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the ability to channel emotions into a song or dance. Often, my song ideas come to me as complete visions, including lights, dance moves, key parts, and backgrounds. These elements come together to help me complete the project I’m working on. I get to take something I’ve written in a journal and transform it into a relatable masterpiece for others to vibe with.
