We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chase Hill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chase, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I was thinking really hard at work one day trying to come up with a unique website domain. I tried every combination of picture, photo, and hill until it finally clicked. HillImagery.com! Then I realized I hated it because there were too many repeated vertical lines in the text, so I flipped it around and ImageryHill was born! I registered it ASAP!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started photography in senior year of high school when I gave up on orchestra and had to fill an elective class. Now I take bookings for photo shoots through my website. I do portraits of individuals, couples, and I also do party’s and pets. I take pride in my angles, compositions, lighting and editing. I solve the problem of capturing your memories beautifully so they can be enjoyed for the rest of your life. What’s special about my services is my clean, sharp editing style. I don’t over-process your skin or heavily change the colors. I focus on accurately recreating your memories for you. I’m most proud of my most recent work that is still being edited but there’s one photo from it on my Instagram. I was using off-camera flash for the first time and the results are incredible. I want my future clients to know that I’m headed in a creative direction and I want to use more practical effects and flashes.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think I’ve tried just about everything but business cards. I always heard those were a flop. I’ve offered free photos with my url watermarked, social media, paid advertising, etc. but I think word of mouth and genuine interaction with my future clients out in the wild is what brings me the most paying customers.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Always being there with my camera when I meet people has helped me build my reputation as a photographer. My website is also a driving factor in gaining recognition. My domain is a brand and my website displays all my work nicely and directs clients to reach out to me.
