We recently connected with Chase DeWitt and have shared our conversation below.
Chase, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I listened to a ton of music growing up. I would always memorize the lyrics and lip sync the song while dancing in my bedroom. It wasn’t until later on that I would want to start making music of my own. Even though it was a little rough at the beginning, but I never stopped putting my voice out there for everyone to hear. I feel like I could have started making music at an early age, but just never knew where to start. I learned a lot on my journey, I met amazing people and created a fair following on platforms/social media. One obstacle that I faced along the way were haters, but just like anyone else in the industry would do, I just ignored them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My real name is Chase DeWitt, known as Mystic101. Let me start from the very beginning. I took some acting classes when I was 10 years old and was in my first ever commercial back in 2014 when I was just 12. At that time, I was also taking Choir classes at my school. Choir really helped me in improving my voice. We would also do a musical every year, which was super fun, that also helped me with stage fright and conquering it. I then started my first ever YouTube channel in 2016 where I would post vlogs and sorts. Unfortunately that channel didn’t last long as I had to delete it. Not too long after, I made a new channel in 2018, which is still active on YouTube. I do what I do because I want others to find a passion in their craft like I did. Never giving up is key, just ask yourself where you’ll be 10 years from now, if you just keep your heart on your dreams.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist would have to be friends. They have helped me so much along the road by supporting my passion and dreams. I’ve had some ups and downs in this industry, so it just feels good to have people there for you when you need them the most. I’ve also met so many talented and amazing artists along the way who I’ve become really close to. I support them, they support me, that’s family right there.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my audience on social media by being very active and interacting with my fans. My advice for anyone who is trying to build a social media presence is to just be yourself. I know you hear that a lot, but it’s true. We’re all unique in our own way, we don’t need to copy what someone does, do it differently. Which brings me to creativity, that’s what this industry is all about. style differently, do something that makes you stand out from others.
