We were lucky to catch up with Chase Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chase, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My interested for body modification started in art class in school. A friend that I sat beside in class showed me a website (bmezine) which sparked a huge interested which fueled my pursuit of body modification personally and professionally.
Chase, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Chase Campbell and I am a professional body modification artist. When I was younger like most in my industry I was fascinated by tribal body modification that you would commonly see in places like National Geographic, this sparked a huge curiosity that never left my mind. Fast forward many years later my intro into the industry started by being offered a body piercing apprenticeship from the place I was getting pierced which between 2006 and 2007. It was basically my foot in the door to doing the things I really wanted to do in this industry which was body modification.
I was fueled by passion and obsession with everything involving body manipulation and modification and I traveled the world and immersed myself into many countries who have cultural ties to body modification. I studied and read non stop everything I could, practiced procedures on myself and a few willing friends, and eventually found myself in the position of what I would consider a well rounded professional.
A few services I offer are tongue splitting, scarification, earlobe reconstruction, body suspension, etc. The problems I solve for clients is offering them a service to feel more comfortable in their own skin and helping helping them transform themselves into what they vision themselves to be . I take great pride in offering a safe, comfortable, and rewarding experience for my clients and I stand by the work that I do.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When Instagram was first launched I started using it to reach out to other artists in my industry and networking with them, making friends and traveling all over the world to learn from each other. I share their work and they share mine, after years of doing this I build a world wide audience that allowed me to consistently travel.
Networking is key. Open up dialog, make industry friends, go out and meet people those people and help each other, share each others work as that boosts your audience, interact with your client base and audience, you can make that list endless when it comes to building a presence.
While what I do is very niche which allows me to travel around the world, you can still apply all those fundamentals to build your target audience. You have to stand out with however you are going to brand yourself or business, make sure its eye catching and interesting and don’t stray off topic you want that attention and engagement to build and progress.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
100% hands down seeing my clients happy over what I was able to do for them, watching my clients people look in the mirror with happy tears in their eyes after I finished working on them will forever be the best feeling.
