We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charnise Love Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charnise Love, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Some of the biggest trends I see in the entertainment industry today is the push for ratings and celebrity influence. And often the way this is accomplished is by overselling sex, drama, superficial idols, satanic dealings and toxicity. This trend has intensified across various media platforms over the years, from television shows to music videos, cartoons you name it! While I don’t personally endorse the culture, it’s crucial to acknowledge its impact, particularly on the younger generation. We have media Influencers who alter their appearance, glorify the hustle culture, and flaunt unrealistic lifestyles that lead the upcoming generations to believe in order to get what they want, you can just praise the universe instead of the creator “God” which is leading them away from what truly matters “God“.
The pop/hip-hop culture, in particular, promotes toxic relationships and the pursuit of material wealth. It’s alarming because it’s resulting in people losing sight of what’s important, which is “Their Souls”. We have people seeking validation through material possessions, and equating popularity to self worth and trying to fill their “God void” with fake celebrity status. At the end of the day today’s culture is all vanity. When I established Love Jones Productions (LJP), I knew it was going to be different, it had to be – God wouldn’t allow me to produce or promote what I saw being at award shows or on reality TV show sets. God put me in those spaces to see where he was needed. I had to choose a different path.
God guided me to create LJP, we purposely deviate from industry norms. Instead, we prioritize promoting God’s message in every space we enter. Our staff and sets radiate the presence of God, offering an alternative to the prevalent entertainment culture.
Charnise Love, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Charnise Love Jones, but I go by Char Love or Love Jones. I graduated from Pacific Union College in Napa, CA, majoring in Marketing Communications. During my senior year, my father passed away from stage 4 cancer, leading me to seek a creative outlet for coping. I discovered my passion for public speaking through my major and dabbled in photography. I also took an intro to film class, which sparked my interest in filmmaking, particularly as a director and producer. After graduating, I connected with a production assistant in NYC while shooting a Nestle commercial, and a year later, I had the opportunity to work for MTV at the VMAs.
Love Jones Productions was born from a life-changing encounter. In 2019, amid the pandemic, I received a divine vision for my clothing brand, YOU FOR GOD, which transcends just being a brand to becoming a chosen lifestyle. As I’m growing into my purpose, my enterprise continues to expand beyond me.
I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with notable individuals in the music and television industry. While I once thrived in those environments, my deeper connection with Christ made me realize His absence in those spaces. I faced a critical decision: whether to align my brand, lifestyle, and company with the world or make them instruments for God’s work. I chose the latter path.
Love Jones Productions specializes in crafting live events, concerts, movies, and documentaries that embody Christ’s values while remaining inclusive to all. You’ll recognize our commitment to representing Him when you encounter a Love Jones Productions event.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned to date is that I can’t achieve everything on my own. I used to believe I could accomplish a lot independently, but God taught me the importance of partnership for success. While initially, it’s just you and the vision, but as you grow, you must trust that God will bring like-minded individuals who challenge your thinking and inspire you to aim higher. This shift in perspective occurred when I moved to Los Angeles, thinking I had it all figured out. However, I lost sight of my faith, became self-centered, and eventually lost my producer role. In hindsight, I’m grateful for that experience as it revealed to me, my overreliance on self and materialism. I learned quickly that true success is had when you’re aligned with God for spiritual guidance. I continue to learn that wisdom alone is insufficient; mentorship and humility are essential on our journey, and what we have today can be gone tomorrow.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I regularly engage with books and sermons to enhance my spiritual & financial journey. Notably, Bishop T.D. Jakes from Dallas, TX, is a remarkable pastor I follow. Sarah Jakes-Roberts, T.D. Jakes’ daughter, empowers women to excel as godly business women. I also tune into Pastor Dharius Daniels from Atlanta, GA, My pastor Openell Jones from Vallejo, CA. In addition to these spiritual resources, I read books like “The Garden Within” by Dr. Anita Phillips and “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer, “Crazy Faith” by Pastor Michael Todd, and “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey to gain financial, emotional and spiritual awareness and to understand my purpose. To avoid being overwhelmed by taking in so much knowledge, I keep a select few on rotation on my entrepreneurial journey. I’ve learned once you’ve fixed your spiritual life, the business and other aspects of life will flow. I always say take care of the important things first so when the blessing pour in you’ll know how to handle them.
