We were lucky to catch up with Charlotte Zang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charlotte, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
One of the biggest shifts in the PR and content creator space has been the move toward authenticity and direct audience connection. Traditional media still matters, but it no longer holds all the power. Now, entrepreneurs, authors, and brands can build loyal followings through podcasts, social media, and newsletters—without waiting for a reporter to give them a platform. That means as a publicist, I’m not just pitching stories—I’m helping clients create and share their own. From behind-the-scenes content to personal storytelling, audiences want real, relatable, and consistent engagement.
At the same time, content creation and PR have become more integrated than ever. The lines between earned, owned, and paid media are blurred, so the most successful strategies are those that combine visibility with value. I now work with clients not only to land press but to ensure that their message carries across every channel—from a podcast interview to a reel to a LinkedIn post. It’s not just about getting seen; it’s about being remembered. That’s the power of storytelling with purpose.
With my client Dr. Gary Sprouse (aka The Less Stress Doc), we’ve leaned fully into this shift by pairing traditional PR with consistent, purpose-driven content that reinforces his mission to help people live with less stress. In addition to securing podcast appearances, speaking engagements, and media interviews, we’re building a strong digital presence through engaging social posts, video clips, and email campaigns that reflect his voice and values. It’s not just about getting him coverage—it’s about making sure his message resonates across every platform, so people remember who he is and what he stands for, long after the spotlight dims.

Charlotte, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always known I’m a writer. Some people think in pictures—I think in words. One of my gifts is being able to shape a message based on the audience, whether it’s a hard-hitting press release, a thoughtful LinkedIn profile, or a whimsical product description. Writing isn’t just what I do—it’s how I connect, explain, and elevate stories that deserve to be told.
I started out as a copywriter and proofreader at an advertising agency and eventually became their public relations director, working with a wide variety of clients to promote their brands. Over time, my work evolved from traditional PR into the dynamic space I’m in now—creating everything from compelling social media content to attention-grabbing media pitches and customized content strategies. Along the way, I even spent time at QVC writing on-air product descriptions—a temporary but fun role that sharpened my skills and reminded me how much a few well-chosen words can do.
Today, I work as a publicist and content creator for authors, entrepreneurs, and businesses of all sizes. I help them tell their stories in ways that resonate—through media placements, profiles, podcast bookings, social content, and press campaigns. I’ve written for clients in nearly every industry, from nonprofits, hospitality and manufacturing to self-help books. My approach is always the same: listen carefully, learn deeply, and then write something that makes people feel seen and understood.
What sets me apart is not just my writing ability, but the way I approach every project with creativity, flexibility, and a true sense of partnership. I take pride in being responsive and collaborative—and in my ability to turn even the most technical topic into a story worth sharing. My goal is to help people get noticed and get their message out in the world in a way that feels authentic, impactful, and lasting.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s helped build my reputation more than anything is simply doing what I say I will do. I answer the phone. I respond to emails. I meet every deadline. I follow up with editors, provide them with exactly what they need, and make sure my clients are fully prepared for interviews or appearances. That level of reliability goes a long way in this industry.
My clients know they can count on me to be loyal, thorough, and committed to delivering what I promised—often going above and beyond expectations. Whether it’s coordinating logistics behind the scenes or ensuring every detail is handled, I treat their work with the same care and urgency as my own. That consistency and accountability have earned trust, built strong relationships, and ultimately grown my business.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As a writer, I’m naturally a voracious reader—books have always shaped the way I think, work, and lead. Several have had a lasting impact on how I approach both creativity and business. Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger helped me better understand why certain ideas go viral and how to craft messages that resonate. Atomic Habits by James Clear gave me a powerful framework for building consistency and discipline into my daily routine. Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles reminded me of the value of mindset, while Daniel Pink’s work—especially Drive and To Sell is Human—continues to influence the way I connect with clients and tell compelling, meaningful stories. Each of these books blends insight with actionable takeaways, which is exactly how I try to approach my own work.
