We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charlotte Hendrickx a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlotte , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Each project I have worked on so far has been meaningful in its own way. I’ve learned infinite things on each set and met so many talented people. The fact that we often work together has led to us becoming a close group of friends.
The next project I’m working on , a feature film called ‘Polly and Sue’, is going to be quit significant . It’s the first feature film we’ll be producing and it’s definitely a different kind of cookie. Everything is on a bigger scale , which forces us to think out of the box even more then ever before which is both risky and exciting at the same time . You feel the adrenaline rush through your body !
Apart from that, what’s making it even more valuable is that I get to create with people who are dear to me.
Rayna Campbell, who wrote the story , has been wanting to film it for quite some time now, and is entrusting my soul-mate-on-set Joaquina Gentil and me to make it a success.
Charlotte , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a producer/actress born and raised in Belgium ; Left it all behind and now living in the the US. I graduated from the American Academy Of Dramatic Arts in 2019 to learn about the art of acting. Ever since I have been working as an actress, and after a growing interest, also as a producer. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands and create your own work!
I’m always looking for new, inspiring and beautiful stories. Whether I am working behind the scenes and get the chance to turn the bare bones of a script into a fully fleshed out project, or I am in front of the camera and get the chance to create a character from scratch, I don’t feel anywhere or ever as good as when I am telling stories.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To be able to give people a voice and tell the stories we all need to hear but might not always want to hear.
One of my acting teachers always used to say: “artists are the teachers of the world.”
We teach people to think for themselves by telling the stories of the world as truthful as we can. If you leave the movies, theatre, music-show ect. feeling something, Wether it’s sad, happy, angry, lost or anything in-between, then that means we’ve given you something to think about and that is undeniably powerful.
It becomes even more rewarding when your story receives recognition.
With ‘The Spell that Backfired’ , a story that shows that you reap what you sow , we won numerous international awards.
It’s a boost of energy !
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Every time you hear a “no” or a “not yet”, you have to make a choice: Is this where I draw the line and give up or am I not ready yet and do I keep going. I admit it’s tempting to quit when the going gets tough but I go for the challenges . I’m staying and I will not stop until I reach my goals.
