We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charlotte Campbell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charlotte, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
It all started with baking cupcakes and cookies for my daughters school.. Their class would look forward to Fridays because they knew my daughter’s were bringing something lol. As this progressed, I would show up to family gatherings and cookouts with treats. Everyone would be excited, things escalated in a good way as I started to take sweets to work for celebrations of co-workers. Many of them would say you should sell your products because they are to good to just give away. I didn’t mind as I love baking for others to enjoy. As days, weeks went by, I thought well if I did this enough I could go full-time with it and eventually quit the 9 to 5 job and build a future not only for myself but for my daughters. What that could mean for them and the legacy I would create. The idea came to fruition and the rest is history!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a mother of two wonderful daughters. I enjoy baking with my family and giving everyone a taste of what I love doing on a daily basis. My passion is to make everyone smile and feel like royalty. My treats are made with love and joy!
For 5 generations, my family has been baking and providing delicious treats to family & friends. I decided to start a company and keep the tradition going and share with all our wonderful sweet treats made from our homemade recipes.
I started baking at the early age of 10 watching and cooking along side my mother, grandmother, cousins, and aunts. My mother brought me my easy bake oven (LOL) this is where it all started with creating ideas for mini treats and I haven’t stopped since.
I enjoy making family recipes with my girls in the kitchen along side me. We love baking for all to enjoy. This puts a smile on our face and warms my heart to provide nothing but the best!
I treat my customers like family, once you order from me you are part of my family!
I will continue on this journey and pass this tradition on to my daughters.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
This would be when a company asked to bake 600 items. I thought how would my kitchen pull this off, did I get in over my head. I pulled myself together utilized my resources and found a larger facility to make my product and pulled off this amazing opportunity. It was stressful in the beginning but it was worthwhile in the end. If I had to do it all over I would!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Every pay I put money away for savings, when I decided to take this journey I knew it would take some financial dedication to keep this going. I took what I had saved up, got all the necessary documentation and requirements in order. I prayed and took a leap of faith. My business has been going strong ever since.
