We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charlie St. Cyr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charlie below.
Charlie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Once Charlie entered college, like most college students, he went to school for Computer Engineering to come to the realization that wasn’t for him. It wasn’t exciting enough or allowed him use his creativity as much as he liked. After managing his younger brother Jeff, that’s when he knew his career path should be in a more artistic profession.
Charlie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Charlie St. Cyr is a Louisiana Creole, born April 7, 1993, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Charlie lived his early childhood in the 3rd Ward of New Orleans. He is an actor, fitness model, celebrity trainer, pro bodybuilder and artist manager. His mother, Lolita Brock and his father, St. Cyr Smith, is of Louisiana Creole descent and Charlie is the oldest of seven half-siblings, two brothers and five sisters.
Charlie landed his first speaking role and big screen appearance in a romantic comedy called, The Wedding Hustler, which played in theaters across the US and the Philippines. He has also been featured in other feature films such as Flip Turn, Amerigeddon, Daylight’s End and numerous television series such as, Lace and It’s A Manns World just to name a few. You may have also seen Charlie featured on NBC with Toni Braxton Live performance.
Before Charlie found his passion for acting, he participated in different kinds of sports as a child, but soccer became his favorite. During the off season of soccer, Charlie joined the theater. This started his passion for acting. While in college, Charlie also found a passion for weightlifting. He found that weightlifting not only helped him physically but also mentally. At the age of 20, Charlie became a certified personal trainer.
Charlie has always had an eye and ear for talent. From the moment his younger brother Jeff Tingz was born, Charlie knew his brother was going to be someone great in the dance community. It wasn’t until college that Charlie had the idea that he could help his younger brother Jeff by managing and guiding him to make a name for himself. After a year of helping him build up his dance resume, dance reel and social media presence, Charlie successfully submitted Jeff to sign his first acting and dance agency in Texas. Charlie, who was only 19, decided to help other artists by opening his own agency called Nation X Talent. He began to discover other young aspiring artists to help guide and develop them as dancers, singers and actors.
Since then, there have been three NXT artists in particular who have continued to make a name for themselves since the ending of Nation X Talent back in 2015. Formal NXT artists include Jeff Tingz (social media influencer and dancer), Kezia Kinchen (Dancer and SZA assistant choreographer) and Troy Grant (local well-known singer in Texas). Although it’s been nearly 10 years since the ending of NXT, Charlie was inspired to officially bring it back under a new rebranded name, CMI Management.
After the ending of NXT, Charlie joined the US Navy in 2016. While serving 6 years in California, Charlie’s new goals were driven by fitness. In 2018 he competed in his first men’s physique bodybuilding show winning 2nd place. That same year he was signed to his first fitness modeling agency, Movement Talent Agency. In 2020, he competed in his third men’s physique bodybuilding show and won his PRO Card naturally. Then he signed with his first acting agency, Starburst Talent in 2021 and has been modeling and acting in many projects ever since.
Charlie has been using his knowledge and experience gained from the fitness and entertainment industry to help merge the two into the work he does to this day. From being a Celebrity Fitness Trainer, helping celebrities like Singer Brandon Arreaga from PrettyMuch, Actor Chris Soriano from Almighty Zeus and Actress Songwriter Diamond White from Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur just to name a few. He also creates Gym Comedy social media content, where he showcases his acting skills creating gym skits. As well, started his own CMI Entertainment Productions to produce and direct creative concepts, like his podcast “The Fit View” and his web reality tv show called “Inside A PROs Prep”.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Charlie loves seeing others win! Being able to help someone achieve their goals or dreams or making their visions or creativity stories come to life are very rewarding to Charlie. It’s the idea of being that one piece of the puzzle to complete someone’s project as a creative, an actor, model, etc.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Charlie believes that society should be more supportive to those in the creative field. Artists and creatives put in a lot of time, pushing through being overwhelmed and while trying to put out something people will enjoy and love and that should be shown support. Purchasing tickets and attending their shows, sharing and engaging on their creative social media post, sharing and recommending their music, their books, their films all these things keep the creative ecosystem thriving. You can be an amazing artist or creative, but if no one is showing you support and helping to put you in front of new audiences then you’re just amazing behind a closed door and Charlie believes every artist should have their doors open for the world to see. Just remember as a society, it takes a lot for an artist or creative to even put their artwork, their creativity, their masterpiece out there for people to see and hear so showing love and showing support not only validates that they did the right thing, but also keeps them going to put out more.
