We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charlie Seith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charlie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I think it all started back when I went to school at Temple University in Philadelphia. I was an extreme introvert, so starting completely new at a school left me frightened. I struggled a lot with my mental health my freshman year. At that time, creating became my only outlet. It became a sort of therapy for me. Whether it was through graphic design, photography, or writing, the story behind those pieces allowed me to express myself. Being creative was the only way for me to express myself at that time of my life. As soon as I recognized that feeling, I connected it to my place at a university that never asks for your ideas. The educational system has a lot of correlations to society – they want students to follow rules and pretend like their value is based on a certain grade or GPA. Taking all of this in, I realized how important a community was for creatives to just be themselves. Society necessarily doesn’t respect the arts and creatives as a career. Therefore, I developed Kolorhouse to be that safe haven for creatives to express themselves because, at one of the lowest points in my life, I recognized the importance of having a creative outlet.

Charlie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I am Charlie Seith, a 22-year-old entrepreneur and creative director for my brand, Kolorhouse. Kolorhouse is a brand aimed at cultivating creativity through clothing, community, and conversation. I started this over 3 years ago with the idea to inspire others to express creativity throughout their daily lives. Therefore, what we provide is an experience that revolves around creativity. We do this through our merchandise, our live events, and our endless conversation with artists about their relationship with creativity. I think that sets us apart. I definitely have not seen a brand or community that is focused primarily on the emotions and feelings of creativity. Those feelings are hard to describe, so we do it through various formats such as clothing and community.
What I am most proud of is just the life that has grown around the brand. Kolorhouse has become a way of living for many. People have realized the importance of creativity in their lives and I could not be more proud to represent that.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That problems are bad. I definitely had to unlearn this idea because growing up, we are taught to stay away from problems and challenges. Now, I embrace them. And once that problem is solved, what will you do after that? What’s next? Problems don’t just go away. Life always has its challenges. Virgil Abloh once said that the world moves as fast as Instagram scrolls up. I guess a backstory correlating to this is when Kolorhouse dropped our Spring 2021 line. We had built so much hype around it for the release date that I completely had not focused on content after the release date. So, the date came and went. People purchased the clothing, which was great. However, it was over so quickly. This really was a challenge for me that I had to learn to embrace. Like okay, what now? This experience really taught me that life moves so fast and there is always a next challenge to overcome.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think just being able to add your story to any art form is the most rewarding for a creative. Just having that outlet to express yourself. It is even more rewarding too when people relate to your story. Sometimes as a creative, we think we are going through something that no one else is. It is quite the opposite. Therefore, I think being able to tell a story through art that others can relate to and help them heal from is a beautiful thing.
