We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charlie Robinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Charlie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I’m pretty sure that I risked my life by not telling my wife that I was secretly writing a book behind her back. When she found out she was not very happy either.
In 2016 I began writing my first book, “The Octopus of Global Control”, under total secrecy from everyone, including my wife. I would sneak out of bed late at night to jot down notes in my office so that I wouldn’t forget, and then write when I could during the day and whenever she wasn’t around.
While I was away one afternoon a large box was delivered to my house that contained the very first shipment of 50 books, all the same book, and all with my photo on the back. I was not there to intercept the delivery so my wife, to her astonishment, discovered what she described as my “manifesto” in printed form with a picture of my stupid face on the back.
She threw me out of the house for two days for “emotional cheating”.
Rather than fight the charges I accepted that I probably should have told her that I was writing a book. I was concerned that she might not be too supportive, and that was understandable, but I was determined to write this book.
Of course, I had no idea that the reaction by the public would be what it has been over the years, but I did feel like sometimes you just need to follow your instincts and then bust your ass and promote your work.
As a result of publishing the book, I came out of the proverbial “writing closet” with my wife, and Jeff Berwick and I partnered up to write “The Controlled Demolition of the American Empire” which became a #1 Best Seller in the USA & Australia on Election Day 2020.
Oh, the irony.
After my third book, “Hypocrazy” came out in 2021, my focus shifted to the podcast, Macroaggressions. This has been the most interesting job I’ve ever had. I talk to the smartest people all the time, as part of my job and I love it.
It was a risk for me to have the audacity to write a book, but it was calculated.
And it paid off, but those were two really long days.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My first book was released in 2017 called “The Octopus of Global Control”, and I set about to promote the book on radio and podcast interviews from Coast To Coast to Tin Foil Hat, explaining how this control system works.
During the course of promoting the book I met Jeff Berwick, the founder of Anarchapulco and financial services company The Dollar Vigilante, and we decided to partner up on a book called “The Controlled Demolition of the American Empire” which became a #1 Best Seller in America on Election Day 2020, as it should be. We sold so many of those books and the issues we were screaming about back in 2020 are happening right now. We wish we weren’t right, believe me.
During the course of promoting my books, I found myself partnering up with Tony Merkel to launch my twice-weekly podcast called Macroaggressions. We are feeling pretty locked in after 400 episodes and #1 spots in the Government section of Apple in the USA, Canada, Australia, and about 20 other countries. We were #1 in Malaysia. How? Not sure how any of this is happening. I felt like I was talking to myself for the first 50 episodes, and I probably was.
The podcast has allowed me to cover current events and speak with interesting people, while the books are more of a long-term project and less time-sensitive. With the books, you can really dive deep though.
I try to bring logic and a sense of humor (and some four-letter words) into the discussion about what is actually happening out there, and not what the official sources or mainstream media are selling to us.
The truth is that I despise both political parties and the mainstream media and I’m not really ashamed to say so. I want to end central banks and I have never supported war. Right now I am getting ready to fly to Mexico to host and emcee the largest anarchist conference in the world, Anarchapulco in Acapulco, Mexico, for its 10th anniversary.
At the rate things are going the anarchist community might be looking pretty good to a lot of people. They really are the most interesting and brilliant people I’ve ever been around over the years. The way they can see the world is amazing. There aren’t any Molotov cocktail-throwing contests, tire burnings, or anything like that. More like releasing baby sea turtles into the water at night on the beach with a bunch of donating customers there to help. It’s an inspiring week-long event, don’t let the name scare you away.
And at worst, you’re on a beach in Mexico in February.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I remember working in the real estate industry in Las Vegas in 2008 and not seeing the very obvious price bubble that was ready to pop. I lost two houses as a result of not understanding the scam.
You know the three-card Monty game that con artists play in dark alleys where the game is rigged and everyone knew except for the suckers? That was me, the sucker. Except in real estate.
You would think that I would know because I was working right in the middle of the #1 market in the country for one of the largest home builders in the country but it even caught me off guard how fast everything comes down, and how manipulated the markets actually are.
I felt determined to not get suckered again. I wanted to understand how money worked, and what the Federal Reserve is and isn’t. As I worked my way through this understanding over the years, it was a conversation with my mother that started the whole thing of writing books.
She asked me what I was going to do with all of this information that I had, and I didn’t have an answer for her. It was the first time that I had ever considered that I played a role in any of this. That conversation started me down the path of writing the first book.
I’m just trying to figure out how it all works and who is behind it all.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Tony Merkel from The Confessionals podcast is my partner on Macroaggressions. He makes it sound amazing and I handle the content, so he is strictly behind the scenes doing the things that he promised he would do when we agreed to do this show in December of 2019.
Tony takes care of the technical things because they make me insane, so we are a fantastic team.
He talked me into doing the podcast if I recall correctly. I was a guest on his show and he said that I should do my own podcast because he liked how I painted a picture and brought facts and humor. He was just launching Merkel Media and we agreed to co-produce the show, launching the first episode in March of 2020, and we are almost four years in with over 400 episodes and even hit #1 in the Government section in America.
It’s been wild.
Tony shaved a lot of the learning curve off for me because his podcast was already massive in the paranormal community, so he knew how to grow a show, and also that you needed to find a schedule and stick to it. He taught me good habits and we approached it like a business.
My monologue goes out Wednesday morning and the interview episode is released on Sunday. We never miss, we stick to a schedule, and we take it seriously while also enjoying it.
