Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charlie Greene. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Charlie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
A few weeks after my tenth birthday, our family lost my dad. It was tragic, sudden, and completely unexpected.
In the years that followed, to say I missed him would be a tremendous understatement. I’d often think to myself, if I could sit down with him just one more time, what would I ask him? Would it be about his childhood? Lessons learned through his career? Or about the way he approached raising children? The topics of potential conversation felt limitless.
That’s why when my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer seven years ago and the doctors told us she might not live more than a few years, I knew I had to ask her some of those questions. And because it had become abundantly clear that my future children would likely meet neither of their grandchildren, I knew I wanted to record her answers.
And so I did. Armed with an iPhone, a list of open-ended questions from various articles online, and her childhood photo album, I began to listen – really, for the first time. We spoke about her childhood, her parents, her teenage years, her career, her love story with my dad, and the journey of having kids herself. As we did, I learned more about her than I ever could have imagined.
At the end of multiple hours, I asked her simply, “Why did you never think to share any of this with me until right now?” Her answer was just as simple. “I never knew you were interested.”
Those few words in that moment became the spark that has fueled the long days and late nights since.
With Remento, we’re helping more families learn the stories of their parents and grandparents they never knew – not because (like me) they aren’t interested. But instead, simply because they’ve never prioritized asking the questions. And with Remento’s technology, the process of turning memories into a book of stories ready to carry forward has never been easier.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey to building Remento is non-linear, driven mostly by curiosity about the power of technology to empower better storytelling. I started my career in journalism at NBC News and spent several years working in crisis communications in Washington, DC before becoming a speechwriter in the Obama Administration. I then spent time at 21st Century Fox, Disney, and Hulu before creating Remento – the easiest way to turn memories of the past into books for the future, all without writing a word.
For many years, those interested in documenting life stories had two options; either hire a ghostwriter to write a memoir, or sit down and write it themselves. Unfortunately, the former is expensive, and the later is a massive amount of work.
That’s why we built Remento; to make the journey of documenting legacy feel less like a homework assignment and more like having a chat with a friend each week. You tell your story, and Remento turns it into a book for your family.
With Remento, your family’s storyteller simply records their answer to a new storytelling prompt each week, from open-ended questions about their childhood to specific questions about a photo from their past. Then, Remento transforms their recorded responses into a hardcover keepsake book of their stories. Anyone in the family can read the words on the page, or scan the QR code at the start of each chapter to hear the recordings use to write each chapter. That way, they’ll never be without your stories, or your voice.
Whether used to document memories of grandpa’s childhood or capture the memories of his granddaughter’s first year as they unfold, Remento helps families preserve their memories like never before.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
At Remento, we’re absolutely customer obsessed. That’s why we spend so many hours each month speaking with customers.
When we speak with current customers, we’re asking them to share the parts of their experience that could have been better. “What would this have felt like if the experience was twice as good?” is a question we commonly ask. When we speak with prospective customers, we’re laser focused on learning about what’s prevented them from making a purchase to date.
This customer obsession sharpens our understanding of the problems our customers face – both generally and also while using Remento – and enables us to be very specific in building solutions that meet these very real problems.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
At Remento, we’re fortunate to have a mission that deeply resonates with each member of our team. Every story recorded on our platform creates an irreplaceable treasure trove of family memories – something many families tell us they’d “give anything to have.” This powerful purpose – helping families preserve their stories – combined with our use of cutting-edge technology, makes the challenges we face worthwhile.
However, a strong mission alone isn’t enough to maintain high morale. We’ve found that fostering an environment of open communication and transparency is crucial. Regular check-ins and an open-door policy help us address issues promptly and ensure everyone feels heard. We also place a high value on recognition and appreciation, celebrating both big wins and small victories to acknowledge each team member’s contributions.
Clear communication of goals and expectations is fundamental to our approach. We ensure that each team member understands how their work contributes to our overall mission, setting achievable objectives that align with our broader goals. When faced with challenges or difficult decisions, we approach them head-on with empathy, fairness, and a focus on solutions.
Finally, team building plays a vital role in our management strategy. Regular activities, both work-related and social, help build strong relationships and a sense of camaraderie among team members. We also believe in empowering our team by giving them autonomy and trusting their judgment, which fosters a sense of pride and responsibility in their roles.
By integrating these strategies with our mission, we’ve created an environment where our team can thrive, even in the face of long hours and challenging work. The result is a highly motivated team that’s passionate about making a meaningful impact in people’s lives through technology, driving us forward in our journey to help more families preserve more stories.
