Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charles W. Bush. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Charles W. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on to date has been a feature documentary called “Born Identity”. In 2009, I was at my 9 to 5 at the time and a gentleman shared with me his experience with church and religion. He said that God gave him permission to be a homosexual. He said he felt he was born this way because he has never been able to control who he loved and who he was attracted to. He seemed very hurt and disturbed with sharing this information with me. Over the next week I toss and turned at night on the subject. I was compelled to do a documentary about the LGBTQI and the world we live in. This documentary was a passion project that started in 2009 and I finished the filming in March of 2020. Talk about long suffering, I was thankful to have the right team to finish. I filmed with several different cameras and had a team travel from different cities and states to film. Humble beginnings.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I graduated from Arkansas State University in 2005 with a Radio/TV Production degree and minor in Theatre. I moved to Dallas, TX in April of 2006 to further pursue film and television. I got my start with Brenda Taylor at Taylor’d Productions. I started as a PA in camera operator and editor. Being under her tutelage was one of the best things because she showed me she had my best interest at heart. It was my first form of encouragement outside of the University I came from.
In 2010, I started my own production company, Appointed Productions. I’ve had several office (corporate jobs) jobs and I built relationships with so many people that were creatives that it pushed me from being a PA, camera operator and editor to a film producer. I was blessed to connect people from all over and start a team of dynamic individuals.
My clients to this day has been your average joes to the list below:
Fort Worth ISD, Big Thought, Forest Hill Public Library, Imagination Celebration Fort Worth, DVA Productions, Jim Austin Online, Fort Worth Public Library, Academy 4, Fort Worth Opera, and Tarrant County Harambee Festival.
If you are looking to stretch your $10,000 budget to a hollywood look and feel, this is what I’ve been fortunate to create for myself and others.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Between 2014 and 2015 I was homless. I was homeless by choice. What I mean by that is I had contract jobs that always ended in 6 mo to a year. They weren’t paying good and I didn’t want to mess up any rental history and the last place I stayed was tough to pay the rent even at $500 a month at that time. While sleeping at different hotels, sleeping on some floors of friends and in my car, I was fortunate to save up some money to buy my first set of LED film lights and a Sony Vixia camcorder. Again….. humble beginnings.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I never treated my passion as a side hustle. When I had a corporate job I always let it be known that I had 2 full time jobs. I refused to work 9 hrs a day for someone else and not put the amount of time needed for my passion. I am now working full time for myself. By the grace of God.
