We recently connected with Charles Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Charles, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Good day, The education system in my opinion needs to be overhauled completely. The education conditioning people to group think and think like robots as opposed to individual thinking. Students are getting more of the non researched facts from tik tok more than picking up books. The things that are being taught are agenda based and not solution based. As I even look for employees, and interns I’m having trouble because no one has the computer skills or the writing skills to get the work done. In the music business new technology changes every year almost so students today have to be prepared to adapt to the fast pace changes, and think on the fly without permission. I think in order to prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career, the education system needs to get back to individual think as opposed to group think. Everyone learns at a different rate and a different pace. Especially in the inner city’s, I go and talk to the kids and they have no clue about how business actually functions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Me DJ Chase, I’m an award winning DJ, music producer, and music publisher from Harlem and the Bronx New York. I’ve been in the music industry professionally since 2005 starting out in college at SUNY Oswego. I’ve been djing since I was 12. My father was a DJ, but real life happens so I just picked up where he left off. I wanted to initially wanted to be a stock broker, but my family couldn’t afford to keep me in college so I just figured I start DJing and doing music professionally. I got my first major recording studio internship in 2004 at a studio in midtown Manhattan called Smash Studios. When I started out, I was a recording engineer first because my mentor in college gave me the opportunity to run the college campus recording studio for free, an I really wanted it bad because I couldn’t afford studio time at the time, and he wanted me to learn pro tools. So this is how I got into the real music industry.
As of today my company DJ Chase Publishing LLC, specializes in personal artist development, and publishing administration, in which we craft music and marketing strategies around new hip hop and r&b acts, in a personal way.
Being in the music business for so many years, I started to noticed that the reason why a lot of talented artists are not successful is because they are not positioned in the market place for retail. These big companies sell music artists like shoes and soda as opposed to human beings. The problem that this solves is that when I’m finished fully developing the artists; I increase their earning potential as well as overall music brand value. So when it’s time for a booking agent or label offer to license their music, they can ask for a higher price.
The number 1 thing that I’m proud of is that I get to help people, who a big major corporation wouldn’t help do to racists practices in the entertainment industry. I preach ownership to all my artists and staff. I have artists under me that have sold over 1.5 million streams on 1 song. I get to give careers to people and use the power that God has given me to change people’s lives.
DJ Chase Publishing is the main umbrella and Worldwide Soundz Records is the record company (an extension of that). Our Mission is very simple God, health, family, and wealth, and I make sure we stick by that.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing the clientele of my company is 1 thing in particular, and that is honesty. You can’t fake, go viral, or sell better value than honesty. The truth is the greatest gift God has ever given. I sell music with truth. Me, and my artists are all honest and real. I sell to the everyday man, the working class American who works a 9 to 5 an is living pay check to pay check. We never sell negativity, of guns, violence, and drugs, so when you see my team, we all see the working class American lifestyle.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients and foster brand loyalty in 3 ways. First I created a direct line of communication on my website, I allow artists and fans to directly message me via my website www.djchase.net. The second way, I communicate and really dive into the brand loyalty is through instagram. I use instagram in a really innovative and creative way, but leaving voice note messages to my fans and creative hash tag based content. The third and last way is through e-mail marketing, and lifestyle branding through emails.
