We recently connected with Charles Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to produce music just by trying. I started with a weird free program called “LMMS” and learned the bare basics through YouTube tutorials and practice. Eventually I got my hands on FL Studio and it changed the game for me, being able to use that interface and the plugins changed my perspective. I continued to use YouTube and also underground artists from SoundCloud as inspiration on how and what to create. Practice, practice, practice.
Knowing what I know now, I could have definitely spent way more time just putting in the work. Sitting down and locking in on the details, even if it’s just learning something new and not necessarily creating.
Most essential skills I believe are being able to connect with people in person, you have to be able to talk to others and be compassionate. Also, discipline is extremely important for without it you will never reach higher levels.
The only obstacles I dealt with was myself, my mind, getting into my head. Overthinking, confidence comes through practice, practice makes perfect. Get out there and work!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music industry as a child! My childhood wasn’t always the best, I had my fair share of traumatic experiences and memories. However, during my childhood I found some of my favorite artists even to this day. 90s Memphis era rap, Houston rap, metal, etc. When I found the genre “Phonk” that basically blends all of my childhood music together, I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
The main service I provide is music to your ears. Think of them as submissions to God, me trying to make this idea of mine sound as best as I can through the knowledge I have, for God. I’m hungry in this world of music however, I’m very interested in engineering, producing for vocal artists, film making, modeling, and much more.
What sets my music apart from others is that I do not make it for money or for streams. I make music out of my heart and soul simply because I want to. I want to show anybody can do it if they just simply do it..
I’m most proud that over the years I have been able to build a foundation for a cult following type fan base that will never die as long as I keep feeding it more love! I’ve now grown into a position where I can put others on and help other people reach their goals. Thank you to everyone who has streamed my music, bought my merch or went to my shows. Everything is only to keep getting bigger and better from here!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Simply listen to music! I feel like as an American speaking at least, we can get stuck in our fast lifestyles or get stuck in our old comfortable ways or somewhere in between that spectrum. I feel like there is a lot of judgement on art based on moral compasses as well that blocks a lot of people from experiencing beauty and inspiration from the music.
Search for new music, I know you love your same old bands and artists you’ve been listening to for years! But, there are endless artists out there making all kinds of genres and sounds you never even knew you liked! Go explore, and when you find an artist that tickles your fancy don’t just listen to one song and forget about them! Listen to their whole discography, decide what you actually think about the artist. Keep up with their new drops, watch their development. Comment your thoughts and opinions on their posts! Buy their merch and represent the music you love on a everyday basis! Go to their shows and experience the music in a way not possible with just regular headphones!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to inspire other people through my music and work to be able to feel like they can do the same as me regardless of their environment or surroundings. I came out of a very low income household with little to no opportunities in life due to failed parenting. Everything I’ve gained has been through hard work, resilience and grit. I’m just a regular guy just like everybody else! If I can do it so can you!!! I wasn’t always who I am, anyone can change, form and evolve into whatever you want to be! It just has to be possible and you have to be disciplined. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
