We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charles Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
God, and myself, In general, the best investment is one that provides a good return on investment (ROI) relative to the risk taken. And I myself have had some days where I just didn’t want to get out of bed. But with the will and strength God provides anything can be overcome.
Charles, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
There are many reasons why I got into photography. I am drawn to the creative aspects of photography and enjoy expressing myself through the images. I am interested in the technical aspects of photography, such as learning about different cameras and lenses, and how to use them to create beautiful, well-composed images.
Photography is a way for me to connect with others, whether through sharing their images on social media or by joining a community of photographers.
Ultimately, the reason i got into photography is to share and spread a creative side of myself that will hopefully live on forever in time.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
How to connect with all types of people and culture.
Connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and with different perspectives can be I have found be challenging. But I have found a few tips to make it easier.
Be open and approachable: Show an interest in getting to know others and be willing to listen to their experiences and perspectives.
Be respectful and nonjudgmental: Treat others with kindness and respect, and try to approach interactions with an open mind and a willingness to learn.
Ask questions and listen: Show an interest in learning about others by asking questions and actively listening to their responses.
Find common ground: Look for shared interests or experiences that can help to build a connection with someone.
Be genuine: Be authentic and genuine in your interactions, and try to build genuine connections with others rather than just superficial ones.
Be patient and understanding: Building connections with people who are different from you may take time, and it is important to be patient and understanding as you get to know each other.
By following these tips you will be amazed at how much more of a story you can get from just one Image.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to put others first instead of myself. I may have a creative idea, but ultimately in Portrait Photography the image is in their likeness. So making sure they get what they want was a struggle for a while. But not any more.
