We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charles Martino. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charles below.
Charles, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
We take great pride in our meticulous approach to every project, ensuring that each detail receives the utmost attention. Upon entering a client’s home, we carefully observe for subtle nuances that can be seamlessly integrated into the project, preserving its sentimental significance. One common example is replicating a child’s height chart on a doorway. While we may replace the existing doorway, we meticulously document it through photographs and precise measurements, meticulously recreating it on the newly installed doorframe with professional painting techniques to maintain its original charm.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
“As a reformed individual, I am dedicated to fulfilling my obligations to society. Despite facing challenges securing employment due to my past, I persevered through various positions where I often felt undervalued. With a longstanding history of employment since my teenage years, spanning across diverse sectors including construction and retail sales, I recognized the need for change. In 2013, I took the initiative to establish my own business, a decision I have never regretted. My inaugural client, my business attorney, not only facilitated the legalities but also entrusted me with remodeling his kitchen, affirming my passion for this field. Supported by an invaluable network of friends and family who consistently referred clients to me, I eschewed traditional marketing methods in favor of organic word-of-mouth promotion. Over the past decade, I have encountered both triumphs and tribulations, learning invaluable lessons along the way. Foremost among them is the importance of delivering impeccable workmanship, treating every client with the utmost respect, and conducting business with unwavering integrity. Reflecting on our journey from humble beginnings to our current standing, I take immense pride in our growth trajectory. My vision extends beyond personal success; I aspire to position our business as a paragon of excellence within the industry, inspiring others to emulate our standards. Equally important to me is nurturing the aspirations of my team members, empowering them to pursue entrepreneurship and eventual independence. My aim is not merely to retain employees indefinitely but to cultivate a network of skilled professionals who collectively elevate our contracting services to preeminence in the Tri-state area.”
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We check in with past customers on an annual basis. Just a simple text or Phone call to make sure everything is still to there satisfactory and to see if they have any future projects coming up
Any advice for managing a team?
Treat everyone with respect. Its ok to joke around and have fun as well to keep morale up. You cant be serious 24/7 . relate your people find common interest, talk with them find out what’s going on with them outside of work. Let them into your outside life as well. Make sure they have the understanding of what you want to do for them as well as where you envision them being and vice versa.
