We were lucky to catch up with Charles Hayes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Before executing what I did was grab my black book that I draw and write a tons of ideas in and I have pages and pages but that was the easy part because when I came to executing I realized that everything on paper looks completely different in person whether it’s digital or physical and sometimes I ran into problem like changing up my ideas or adding more to it or taking from it which is the fun but the most exhausting part because now all you can rely on is your creativity and brainstorming which is scary because in the back my mind all I was wondering or how the target Audi would accept this idea, it could take hours or even days till you make up your mind on what the finish product would look like but creativity is key.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I go by the name of Chinaman born and raised in Overtown Miami, Florida. I created my clothing line back in 2016 and finally built the confidence to release it 2021 not an easy process still going through and ups and downs in this industry but that’s all part of being an entrepreneur you have to visualize the potential before looking at the failures. I am most proud of the fact that no matter how many times I ran in an obstacle or even listened to what other people feel I should do I created my own path and worked with what’s best for me and that’s important because other people are only going to put a limit on knowledge they provide and choose not to see vision and that’s why I will always tell the next person to line your own path and do what works for you because only you can prepare you vision like how you want it.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first put out my line back in 2021 I was on the right track but I got too big headed, quit one of my job that’s was bringing in good income to support me and my business so that I can focus on my business back that wasn’t the smart move to make at the time because I had to put a pause on my clothing line because of product management and income so that caused a set back but helped me see the bigger picture again and allowed me to rebrand/regroup and come up with other great ideas that I’m putting into action as we speak. I say all that to say… when you are on a path stay on it no matter how many hours, time and dedication you have to put in because it’ll pay off and staying focused is only going to creat improvement.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
To be honest I think my ability to create something knew help build my reputation because a lot of friends always looks forward to what I’ve created and gets mad when they have to wait so long to see or get it lol.
