Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charles Graham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Charles, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Our firm specializes in representing people who’ve been seriously or fatally injured by 18 Wheelers. Our firm is unique because the founding partner of the firm has owned and operated a trucking company and freight brokerage company. My practical experience of buying and putting tractor trailers into operation gives us a unique perspective of the trucking industry. This includes compliance with regulations by the trucking company, safety and best practices for drivers, and the realities of how failure to adhere to safe practices can lead to catastrophic results on the roadway.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m originally from Gulfport, Mississippi. I attended college at Howard University where I earned a degree in microbiology with a minor in chemistry. Prior to attending college, I joined the United States Army Reserves. In all, I served fourteen years and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before I was discharged. I began law school also at Howard but midway transferred to Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, CA. While in Los Angeles, I worked in the music business representing a number of recording artists, songwriters, and producers.
Following several years of working in the entertainment industry, I relocated to Atlanta. I officially began my legal career by working as a county prosecutor. During my tenure as a prosecutor, I tried dozens of cases and argued numerous dispositive motions. After a year and a half on the job, I felt that I was ready to switch my focus to defending citizens who found themselves in trouble with the law. I opened my practice in 2001. For several years, I was honored to represent hundreds of citizens who had been arrested and charged with a crime. Building on the countless number of trials and motions, I transitioned our firm to focus on personal injury advocacy.
In 2012, I was looking to diversify my business activity and decided to start a transportation company, Charles Graham Carriers. For over a decade, our trucking company transported a variety of freight including groceries, ammunition, building materials, automobiles, and heavy equipment. It was during this time, I began to get a front row seat on the ins and outs of the trucking business. Once we were hired on our first trucking case, my experience gave me a clear path to finding the right information that helped us pursue justice for our client.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My senior paralegal, Gloria Berry, and I met in 2001 while working for another firm. After about a month on the job, the firm was unable to pay me on the scheduled pay date. Sensing this would become a problem, I resigned and started my own practice. About a year later, I received a call from Gloria letting me know that she had to resign as well for the same reason I left. We met and discussed how we could work together. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Twenty years later, we’ve built a great team and enjoying the success from our hard work.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new clients has always been by work of mouth. It’s important that we remember that our first objective is to provide excellent customer service. We have to listen to our clients and be an unyielding voice on their behalf. Because of this approach, we’ve been able to grow our practice year over year with very little marketing and advertising. Treating our clients with respect and giving honest advice has served us greatly.
