Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charles Buckingham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Charles, thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I started out in hypnosis by starting our business, Colorado Springs Hypnosis. I was still in the process of transitioning out of the army, so for the first year, I saw clients in the evening and on weekends. I retired from the army and started practicing hypnosis full time at the end of 2019, right as corona was kicking off. In the beginning, the main service I offered was smoking cessation. While corona was hurtful to many businesses, I think it actually helped us as more people were mindful of their respiratory health and naturally there were several people who chose to give up smoking.
Now we help people make a variety of changes in their lives and have added additional services and disciplines to our practice. While the majority of our clients still come in for hypnotic change work or spiritual hypnotic sessions, we also see clients for astrological consultations and intuitive energetic readings.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Charles and Brisa are the founders of Colorado Springs Hypnosis Ltd. We opened our doors in September of 2018. We offer hypnosis sessions for personal change, traumatic or difficult emotion release and spiritual purposes. Brisa also provides intuitive readings where she looks into your energy and can give you insight on issues you may be dealing with and provide clarity. Charles is an astrologer and can help you understand your personal energies as well as how they may interact with those of others of certain environments.
So through astrology and energetic readings we can help our clients better understand them selves, their personal needs, and their potential. With hypnosis we help clients make the most of their strengths, fulfill their needs in a healthy way and let go of habits and beliefs that no longer serve their highest good.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
It really helps to get into your community. This is one of those things that can be hard to do in the beginning. It can be time consuming and it doesn’t pay off immediately. Networking groups are great although it can take time to find the ones where you feel as though you fit in. But people won’t refer people to you until they actually get to know you.
You also have to find ways to introduce yourselves to the public. So for this you have to find your soap box. And my preferred soapbox may not be yours but hopefully mine may inspire you to find yours and use it. One soapbox that has really helped us meet people has been public events and for us, metaphysical events have been especially helpful. Just setting up booths at holiday events and trade shows in Colorado Springs has enabled us to meet people in person and demystify our services for them.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
So Brisa, my business partner and wife, and I met in the Army. We were in the same company but worked in different sections. We really started to spend a lot of time together when we were In Afghanistan. She would come visit me when she was making supply runs to our base. We started dating when we got back.
We both started learning about hypnosis in early 2015 when we began attending a meetup group for hypnosis in Denver. We eventually attended Hypnothoughts Live in Las Vegas, which opened us up many great mentors and teachers and eventually lead to us starting this business.
