Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charles Brantley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Charles thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
This is an interesting question because it’s not that I ever wanted to do anything different than have my own business. In other words, I have always wanted that.
The interesting dynamic is that it has been difficult to establish as economic climate can fluctuate over the years.
I am still learning a great deal of what’s necessary to build awareness of my brand. If I could change something in the past, it would be to educate myself sooner as to what brings better awareness to my ideas.
Charles , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Charles S. Brantley. I am a multimedia artist and designer. I feature customizable wall fixtures and art on my online store www.brantley decor.com.
I have always been inspired by the Human nature to arrange and manipulate objects in space and time. From rocket launches and space travel, to stone sculptures to digital graphic design, we can customize an object or even an entire environment to solve problems.
I admire those who use their bare hands to create. I mostly use a keyboard and mouse, but I still proudly claim my membership as a creative person when solving problems.
Being creative, of course, means more than solving problems. We create for spiritual, expression & communicative, and aesthetic purposes as well.
On my site brantleydecor.com, customers can customers can use one of my art pieces to communicate whats important to them.
So, in essence, I strive to offer a place where everyone can express themselves and their values, through great looking art.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is when the community believes in your journey. As a matter of fact, I think when they understand your mission and sympathize with your journey, they respect your craft more.
Now, no matter how well known I or my brand may become, there will always be the journey. Some successful people are anxious to “arrive” and believe that it is ok to stop learning. As a perpetual student of the digital arts, I will never stop learning.
I will always feel free to share with my peers and potential admirers the beauty of the journey and communicate THAT through my work. So, you see: it is a beautiful cycle.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
If I had to say I’d like to “unlearn” something, it would be the idea I had that education wasn’t important as a creative. I’m learning now more than ever that understanding your craft is highly valuable. I believed that I knew everything that there was to know to be successful. It is a mistake that I am just now entering the last phases of clean up.
