We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charity Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charity below.
Charity, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been signing since as early as I can remember. The first time I knew that I wanted to pursue music professionally somewhere around the age of 6-8 . At the time I would sing all day long and listen intensely to artist such as Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, BeBe and CeCe Winans, and Christina Aguilera.
Music puts me in an euphoric space in that I feel free when I express myself through it. Growing up I would participate in musicals, church choir, and school choir. One day I was in the car riding from school with my friend and a Stevie Wonder song came on. I remember falling into my own world and I was completely in awe of his vocal capability. It was at that time that I knew that music held a special place in my heart and that music was something I would pursue professionally in adulthood.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m an Independent R&B artist from Detroit, MI.
I have a degree B.A. in Advertising/Marketing from Wayne State University. While I was in college I knew that I wanted to pursue music, so my last year of college I decided to start taking vocal lessons to sharpen my vocal skills and learn more about music.
The vocal lessons helped free my voice tremendously (all with the help of my vocal coach Brandon Smith and LOTS and LOTS of at home practice). Although I was starting to sing again I still didn’t have the courage to pursue music professionally because of fear of what others may think (because it’s not a traditional career) and lack of resources. Eventually I began to stray away from music again to start a different creative venture.
I re started my creative journey by upcycling and reworking clothing to promote sustainable fashion. My brand (Charity X Designs) was founded in 2020 during COVID (which is still going strong) and was completely life changing for me because I was able to express myself creatively. Charity X Designs was the stepping stone for me to feel confident in sharing my artistic endeavors with the world. I prayed to God for guidance, strength, and courage along my journey because I would need it if I was going to take that leap of faith to share how I express myself through music. I soon decided that I was going to pursue music professionally because it’s my true passion and love.
I currently make r&b music to uplift, encourage, and motivate people for the better. I also make songs about love, and maneuvering through real life situation.
What sets my music apart from others is that it has many elements from past music that gives it a nostalgic sound, but I still incorporate present and futuristic vibes to my sound. I also love me some old school music, so the inflections in my voice and how I sing is heavily influenced by a timeless sound.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that is driving my creative journey is for me to share a message of positivity, hope, love, and resiliency. There’s so much popular music out that depicts negativity and toxicity and I want to show that music can sound just as great while sharing a more optimistic viewpoint.
I’m also fueled by the little girl inside of me. Young me was timid, anxious, and even depressed and I want to share and spread awareness that there is light on the other side of the tunnel. It wasn’t until I began growing in my relationship with God and living my purpose my life only changed for the better. Little me would be astonished at how much I’ve changed for the better and how fearless I’ve become.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One book that I’ve been reading is “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale. This book has given me such fresh perspectives and has been quite monumental for my thought process. The mind is such a powerful tool and thinking positively can shift your emotions, improve your health, relationships and even help with the process and ability of achieving your personal goals. One great tip that I learned from this book is that the word of the Bible have therapeutic value and to allow those words to dissolve into your consciousness for peace of mind.
