We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charisse Piros. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charisse below.
Alright, Charisse thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
My mother Via and I talked about creating a blog for years. It was something we felt was needed but we never executed the specifics or how it would look. At the end of 2020 the conversation popped up again, I was fortunate to have the funds to pay for a domain and website. We went for it! We wanted to show the difference between out generations on topics giving advice and perspective to our audience. We post semi monthly on the website and focus on three themes. Self care, female empowerment and relationship advice. It’s incredible to think we have been doing this almost 2 years! What started as a blog for female empowerment is now evolving into a self care app to give women tips to improve their life. I am speaking with app developers to get the app LIVE before 2022 is over.
Charisse, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Charisse Piros. I am self taught graphic designer and writer. I have a published book on Amazon and besides blogging stick to poetry or prose. I enjoy sharing stories with my audience in a raw, unfiltered way. I think sharing vulnerabilities resonates with people in a meaningful way. I am proud that I have not wavered in my ability to create honest content that helps other women. Female empowerment is much needed, in a society that holds unrealistic stigmas on us. I want to be that sister to women that need support so they can be their best self.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I purchased my domain name and the web hosting for my website in December 2020. I have a social media presence for my personal life and knew the importance of an online presence. I created a Facebook Business page and link content from that page to my website. After 6 months I created a Facebook Group for followers of my blog. I cross promote events on both groups and my Instagram. Being visible online reaches more followers to spread your vision. Staying consistent is crucial. I post every day on my social media, multiple times. Growing followers is an uphill battle but it doesn’t have to be if you are engaging.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A close friend of mine gave me a piece of sound advice I carry with me to this day. “People will say they are for your vision but they will not have your best interests.” When she first told me that I didn’t think it would be a lesson I would learn so quickly. A month later my Tshirt designer quit. This happened halfway through 2021 when I was hitting my stride with my blog. It felt like I was hit by a train. This happened out of the blue and caused issues with opening our Tshirt store on the website. My co-owner and I remained focused on the message of empowerment and trucked along. We decided having a Tshirt shop was not as nearly as important to us as staying committed to our content and branding. It’s a challenge to move forward when a team member bows out but we didn’t want to let it affect those that were committed to us. Giving up wasn’t an option.
