We recently connected with Charente Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Charente , appreciate you joining us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
I would have to say I have more than 1 hero and they are my parents. They have shaped and molded me in ways they probably don’t even recognize. Both of my parents are major “Go Getters” they are the type to make something out of nothing and get things done by any means necessary. My mom has always been my ride or die, anytime I’m in need of anything I know I can call on her. I’m the type that don’t like to ask for help unless it’s my last resort and when I get to that point she’s my number one, really my only one I’ve never had to resort to a number two. My dad helps me with my drive and confidence in knowing that the sky is the limit, whatever I put my mind to I can and will achieve. They are a big part of my support system and will always acknowledge them as my heroes.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Master Cosmetologist and I started in this industry 10 years ago in 2013. In the beginning, hair styling was something I used as a side hustle it wasn’t my main career choice, because I felt that there where so many people in the industry already. After a while I started to realize no matter how much I tried to run from it I always found myself right back at it. So I decided to take it more seriously and went to school to obtain my license. Graduated in 2016 and started my journey immediately. It was a hard and bumpy road, there were times I had to start over and became overwhelmed, even thought about giving up, but I kept on striving to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Throughout the process I started to realize just standing behind the chair styling hair wasn’t enough for me I had way more knowledge than that. So I got the idea to create my own haircare system which includes a Cleansing Shampoo, Moisturizing Conditioner and Growth oil. I wasn’t afraid at all to dive right in and invest in myself to make it happen and my husband made sure he kept me on my toes when it came to that. My product line has been very successful so far and my plan is to take it even further. Im most proud of myself for fighting through the course of doubters, nonbelievers, haters, and energy killers to make it to where I am. I’ve been in business for myself going on 7 years now and I don’t plan on stopping. The things I believe I offer that sets me apart from other is, I don’t stop learning the world is changing all the time so there is always new information brought to this industry. Also time management is an ongoing issue within the industry and I pride myself on keeping my schedule nice and tidy when it come to my clients appointments and orders when placed. I am the type to prep for appointments before they arrive so that things are ran in a smooth manner while being serviced. I offer almost every service that this industry can offer. SlayedByMuNaeZone is where the magic happens!!!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is a big platform for business and sales, that is something I had to learn and I’m still learning. Promoting is an all the time ongoing process that doesn’t stop. The more you promote your services/ products the more you will be remembered when a potential client or buyer need your services/ products. Being popular on social media is not a must for me because that doesn’t mean your services/products are the best. So focusing on how many followers and likes you have isnt important that doesn’t dictate your business worth, because word of mouth travels fast.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Working at a fast pace but still providing great quality is what built my reputation within this industry. I’ve learned that clients like to be comfortable and relaxed but most of all they don’t like to sit very long while being serviced. They like to get in and out in a decent amount of time and that’s what I offer.
