We recently connected with Chantrice Rachelle and have shared our conversation below.
Chantrice Rachelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
While I have been an artist my whole life, it wasn’t until 2020 that I actually decided to take this journey seriously (as opposed to it being a hobby). Within these last two years, there have definitely been moments when I wished that I had started earlier. I even sometimes wonder where I’d be in my art career had I pursued formal education in art versus business and technology. However, I have to always remind myself that I am exactly where I am supposed to be on this journey and timing is everything. Had I started earlier, there is no guarantee that I would be further, as knowledgeable, or even as prepared as I am now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a self-taught visual artist from Atlanta, GA who explores abstract and pop art styles. I have been creating art since I was a child when I frequently drew pictures of my favorite cartoon characters. Throughout life, I continued to use cartoons as inspiration to leisurely create. In 2020 I began to explore and fell in love with abstract art as a way to express things I experienced during recent years. Since then my art practice has focused more on telling my stories through abstract art; however, my pop art roots are never too far away. The themes of my work are heavily inspired by life experiences and nostalgia.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom to express myself in ways that words can’t. There are so-called rules in art and ways that people feel things should be done but to be honest, there are no rules for a true artist. This gift of being an artist is one that allows me to do things as I please, which inevitably results in something beautiful that can be impactful to someone else. Art for me is one thing that lights me up… it makes my soul happy. Being an artist and viewing the world differently from others is the most rewarding thing. Artists are different, in a great way.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My mission as an artist is to create art that is expressively freeing and healing for me while evoking emotion and inspiring connection for viewers.
