Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chantilly Bronxville. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chantilly , appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
Since a very young age, I have always worked. Not because I needed to work when I was 16, but because I liked it. I started off with odd jobs here and there and a lot of volunteering. Later as I got older, the jobs became a little more challenging and at more prestigious establishments. I could talk about the last job I held before I opened my business with my sister which was also my favorite job, but actually, I learned one of my most important lessons during the worst job I ever had.
When I started college, I went to school for architecture. So, naturally I sought a job at a firm my freshman year in college. What was supposed to be a foot in the door of what I thought would be my career for the rest of my life, turned out to be the most humiliating and degrading job I ever had. At only 18 years old, I learned how to stand up to the rudest and crudest boss I ever had. My dream was so crushed but from what I learned that day was one of the most positive lessons I have ever learned. That day I learned the value of mutual respect between individuals in a professional environment. I promised myself if I ever became a boss I would treat all with compassion and dignity and my professional standard would be the most important part of my professional career.
I will never forget the day I quit that job, but I am thankful for the greatest lesson ever learned from it.

Chantilly , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Chantilly is a 14-year-old bakery and we have never been any prouder of the work we do. We are known for our made from scratch and baked in house product- Crowd’s favorite is the plain croissant, and from there, everything else! We always like to stress the fact that we do make everything from scratch and in house because it really is labor but labor of love. In the recent 4 years, due to covid, we’ve had to sort of reinvent ourselves and now, we host theme days once a month. These have included Croissant Day, Pi Day (which we celebrate with pies!) Macaron Day, April fool’s day and Donut Day to name just a few. We also work with custom orders from exquisite cakes to dessert tables, charcuterie boards, and catering small parties of 15-20.
We’ve had people from all over visit us and it has been a great push for us to continue working hard alongside incredible hard-working staff, pushing new product and providing excellent service to our community.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My partner is my sister Mariana. She is head baker/chef and without her this bakery wouldn’t be what it is today. She has taught me everything I needed to know to become a great baker and I owe my success as well as the bakery’s success to her resilient hard work and bad-assery.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We may be a small and some may call us a mom-and- pop business, but Chantilly has grown its reputation through the years because we never let our standards down. We think the product we have has really helped keeping us relevant- where you have many bakeries selling frozen and cheaper products, we make our own from scratch and baked every single morning. We never say it’s perfect because we are always raising our standards and always looking for a way to perfect what its already great, but we do believe that our quality is the reason our standing in this business continues to grow.
