We were lucky to catch up with Chantelle Bishop recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chantelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It is clear that I have found the perfect niche that reflects my personality, but my business is not just about the handmade jewelry and pretty branding. The most important aspect of my business is my mission to spread the message of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. This well known bible verse gives strength and hope to move forward in any life circumstance. I want every woman who wears my jewelry to remember their true worth; that they are loved by Jesus Christ, and that they can overcome anything through HIm.

Chantelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I discovered my love for entrepreneurship while I was in high school, and loved working on different little projects like selling my art, renting out dresses, and then starting to make and sell earrings. That is when Chantelle Nicole Jewelry officially began, however my brand and products are completely different now. A couple years after I initially started my jewelry company I was wanting to turn it into something that I truly loved-not just following old trends. I wanted my business and products to reflect my style and personality. That’s when was inspired by pressed flower jewelry! I had come across a photo online of earrings that had preserved flowers inside resin. It reminded me of a necklace pendant that my parents bought while they were on a trip to Mexico when I was a little girl. I still have the pendant to this day. It had the tiniest rose bud, forget me nots, and other flowers inside. I could never get over the fact that they were REAL flowers inside! This felt like a full circle moment as I decided: “I am going to figure out how to do that. This is my new niche!”.
I make a variety of every day jewelry styles as well as bridal earrings. It has been really exciting to dive into deeper into bridal designs this past year and really focus on getting my name out into the wedding industry. Not only do I sell made-to-order jewelry styles online, but I also offer custom options. My customizations allow people to have their own sentimental flowers preserved into jewelry. I carefully incorporate wedding flowers, funeral flowers, engagement flowers, etc, into whatever designs my customer chooses. I love being able to preserve special flowers into something wearable and meaningful for my customers.
I am very proud of my original designs, and frequently have customers telling me that my pressed flower jewelry is unlike any they have ever seen. These compliments mean so much to me, as I have put in endless hours of research, trial and error, and problem solving over the last 5 years to make my designs come to life. I have perfected my resin techniques as well as my wiring techniques, and jewelry making skills over all. I believe I truly have mastered my craft, although there is always more to learn and new jewelry making avenues to venture into.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
There are many aspects of a good reputation. Several different key points that help me uphold a good reputation would include: providing high quality materials, providing great customer service, uniqueness and originality of designs, distinct and recognizable branding, and showing my personality through my business.
I have come a long way in each of these areas and am always looking to improve my skills and strategies to help my business grow and become better than before. I am a very integrous person and it is important to me to provide my customers with high quality of my materials. This has taken much work and research and seems to always be an ongoing process of problem solving. I truly care about the products that I put out, and I hope my customers can see that!
It matters a great deal to me to take care of my customers. Because I am a one women show, sometimes I make mistakes. But in the event that I do make an occasional mistake I like to make it up to my customers by slipping a little gift inside their package or discounting their order.
I think one of the things I am remembered by is the uniqueness of my jewelry. I have many designs that are very original and you can’t quite find anything else like it. My products are fresh and reflect my personality and hard work. I have had many repeat customers for years, who appreciate my artwork so much that they want to come back and purchase another design.
This is one of the highest compliments to me; for someone to love my work so much that they want multiple products to wear on a regular basis.
My branding is also very recognizable and memorable for people, and I am very proud of the branding I have created. I love when someone sends me a random post, photo, or even a facebook market place listing of a tea cup or a pretty piece of furniture, or a specific wallpaper, etc. saying “This reminded me of you!” or “This looks like your branding!”. I think this shows I have been doing well at keeping my branding cohesive so that it is recognizable.
My personality shines through my business because my branding is very much my personal style. I love all things European, English countryside, ribbons, pretty china saucers, wedgwood, rolling green hills. I love all things beauitful and delicate, so I have had so much fun allowing myself to find a creative outlet in my social media feed and brand photoshoots. Another way I show my personality through my business is that I love to share personal spiritual thoughts on instagram or on a blog post from my website. Because Christ is the foundation of my business, I incorporate different Christ-centered spiritual themes into different collections I release. This adds a very meaningful touch to my business that a lot of people can relate to on a personal level.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think anyone who owns a business knows that it is genuine hard work. It is sometimes just as painful as it is rewarding. I have especially experience a lot of these feelings lately as I have been trying to find solutions to problems that will help my business progress in many different ways. Product development, manufacturing, changing suppliers, social media; the list goes on. There are times I’ve wondered if its worth it, but I know I have come too far to only come this far. I draw strength from Jesus Christ, along with look back on my previous experiences where I kept moving forward and persevered through something hard. Just like how my business motto is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”, this verse is also my personal life motto that helps me overcome any obstacle I face. I may not be able to solve every business problem alone, but with God’s help I truly believe anything is possible. He can make much more of my life and my business than I can, so I try my best to have faith and trust in Him through the process.
