We recently connected with Chantel Fidelia-Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Chantel , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success takes consistency, dedication and hard work. Success doesn’t happen overnight. sometimes the road to success is a long one but there really aren’t any shortcuts. The journey to success is filled with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns and bumps in the road along the way. If you pay close attention the road to success teaches you many lessons to what may work for you and what may not work so well in which you may have to take a step back and change your approach and your reach. Most successful people will tell you they didn’t get it on their first try but stayed consistent and found their stride.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Chantel Fidelia-Thomas. I’m a wife, mother, business owner, hairstylist, mentor, and very recently a product developer. I’ve been a hairstylist professionally for a little over 20 years, hair has been my passion since the age of 8 years old. My grandmother was a realtor who would let me style her hair as a kid, she’d wear it to work all the time then instilled in me that i had a gift for cosmetology. I became a mother as a teenager so naturally I had to stay very disciplined at a young age because I had someone depending on me. I recently relaunched my luxury hair extension company. where we provide all types of extensions in all textures. From straight hair to coils we appeal to all hair types. Our hair comes in wefts, I-tips, k-tips, clip ins, wigs and tape in extensions. We also create custom wig units for clients who may suffer from hair loss or simply want a new look without a long term commitment. I’ve recently partnered with a sister company to help create a hair loss prevention product to help restore minor hair loss problems that lead to severe thinning, damaged hair, and some forms of alopecia. For the past year the product has been in it’s testing phase but has recently moved out of that and into the distribution phase where it will soon be released to the public for resale.
I’m an advocate for healthy hair, I help my clients overcome hair loss. My attention to detail and the relationships I form with my clients is what sets me apart from others. A lot of my clients have been with me through my hair evolution and given me the encouragement to take my hair knowledge to a much higher level than just being an ordinary stylist. My passion is to continue to change lives through my gift.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I feel that being authentically and genuinely me helped build a reputation in my market. When you love what you do, it shines. I’m honest and transparent, and I don’t sell people dreams. The health of your hair comes first, and my clients appreciate that; in turn, they refer me to others, and word of mouth is the best form of marketing. My clients are walking billboards, so I always give 1,000 percent. I am a perfectionist, and my clients can vouch for that. If it is not right, I will ensure it is before anyone leaves my chair.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of my most significant life lessons happened when I had to make a pivot in my career. I worked for a fortune 500 company for ten years. They downsized and closed the location I was based out of, which forced me to make the change from an employee to an entrepreneur. It was something I’ve always wanted to do, but I was comfortable. Being let go was scary at the time but was a pivotal point for me and pushed me to make the life-changing decision of becoming an entrepreneur. I couldn’t be more grateful that everything happened the way it did. I honestly feel if it didn’t happen that way, I wouldn’t have had the courage to take the leap of faith, and I probably would still be working for someone else.
