We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chantaul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chantaul , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my upcoming children’s book, My HBCU Helped Me Become A-Z Alphabet Book. It was born from my life as a single mother of two amazing kids; my daughter, who lives with two seizure conditions and continues to shine with courage, resilience and joy, and my son, whose intelligence and curiosity inspire every page. Creating this book became my way of turning our challenges into purpose. A celebration of resilience, education, and hope. It reminds me daily that no matter what life brings, our stories can still inspire others to dream beyond their circumstances.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m “Chantaul” a single mom, singer-songwriter, now childrens author, and the owner of Chantaul Entertainment LLC. My journey has been one of faith, resilience, and creativity.
I create art that uplifts through soulful R&B music that speaks to healing, dream chasing and empowerment. What sets me apart is that my work is real, my story is real, raw and uncut. It’s rooted in motherhood, perseverance, and purpose.
I’m most proud of turning my personal journey into something that inspires others and proof that even in the midst of struggle, there’s still light, still love, and still room to build the life you’ve imagined.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Honestly, the most rewarding part of being an artist is knowing my pain and my purpose can exist in the same breath. I’m a single mom raising a daughter who battles seizures and a wild, energetic five-year-old boy, and some days it feels like I’m just trying to hold it all together. But creating whether it’s a song or my upcoming children’s book gives all that chaos meaning. When someone tells me my music helped them heal, or a mother says she saw herself in my story, that’s everything to me. It reminds me why I keep going because even through the hard days, my art proves that something beautiful can still grow from struggle.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was expecting people to accept the new version of me. For a long time, I thought growth meant everyone around me would grow with me that once I healed, elevated, or moved differently, the people I loved would automatically understand and celebrate it. But the truth is, some people only recognize you from your past version the one that tolerated things, played small, or doubted herself. The backstory is simple: I reached a point where I had to choose peace over pleasing. As I began evolving through motherhood, entrepreneurship, and personal healing, I realized my transformation made others uncomfortable. So I had to unlearn the need for outside validation and embrace that my evolution isn’t meant for everyone to understand it’s meant for me to live fully and unapologetically.
