Alright, Chantal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

As a female in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics,) I never really felt like I fit in. Chem Baddie Cosmetics was started to celebrate the beauty in science and to show how anyone can be in STEM. We give 5% of all profits to the Association for Women in Science (AWIS.)

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I always loved cosmetics and from an early age, knew I wanted to be a makeup artist. I became a certified makeup artist and worked at Sephora for 8 years. Chem Baddie Cosmetics combined my chemical engineering, cosmetic science, and makeup artistry background to create high-quality, affordable, and fun cosmetics. What sets us apart is our message to those in STEM or wanting to go into STEM. I am most proud of our Double Threat shirts that many have reached out and said wearing it gives them the confidence to embrace who they are. I want people to know everyone is smart and there isn’t one look to beauty or intelligence.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

When first deciding to start my business, I was told by several lawyers it would be very hard to get a trademark for my business. After almost 3 years, it was officially approved in May.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn the idea that everyone thinks and works the same way I do. When I started Chem Baddie, I had to learn that everyone needs different direction and management in order to suceed.
