We recently connected with Chantal Lapeyre and have shared our conversation below.
Chantal , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
For my jewelry business, I actually handle all the social media myself. That goes for content creation, editing, scheduling, and posting! As a student majoring in marketing, I find myself applying some of the knowledge I’ve gained from university to my socials. I also love the creative aspect of shooting jewelry and playing around with all the different props.
Chantal , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started off my business during COVID when we had tons of free time on our hands. I’ve always wanted to start a business and I thought to myself that an online jewelry one would be perfect for me! I decided to start selling tarnish-free and waterproof jewelry at an affordable price to make it more accessible to everyone. As the business grew, It became a little challenging to balance college, a part-time job, and the business. However, with good time management, I managed to do it, and I’m very proud of where I’ve come. I want any potential customers to know that behind the business is just a college student working nights and weekends trying to make it happen for herself. Also that any support to a small business whether it’s a follow on Instagram or a purchase, it means the world to them and contributes to their success!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I have found it really beneficial to start attending pop-up shops and markets as a vendor. I have found that women love feeling and trying on jewelry which overall brings in more sales. Seeing their smiles and being able to interact with new customers just bring so much joy to me! I would definitely recommend trying them out if you want a more face-to-face experience with your clients.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Although our jewelry is not handmade, we partner with some amazing manufacturers that let my vision come to life. It was tricky to find them at first, as I did not know much about the industry when I started at such a young age. However, when I did find them, I felt like I hit the jackpot! The quality of the jewelry they create is unreal and I love how much they let me customize and personalize my pieces.
