We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chantae Vetrice . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chantae below.
Chantae , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my latest single “R.I.P.” which is available now on all platforms.
As an artist in the hip hop community and a black woman, it breaks my heart to constantly see our people being taken out over and over again. When Takeoff from the Migos got killed, it really hit me hard and I immediately wanted to write about it and share with the world my perspective on what is happening.
With every tragic death it really makes you question your own mortality and the time you have left in the world and in this business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I grew up around music all my life and knew that it was something I wanted to pursue, as a career, when I was a young girl. My mom was a single parent so she made sure that I was given every opportunity that she could afford me, to explore my creativity and passions. I played violin, took vocal lessons, sang in the church/school choir during my middle and high school years.
Once I got to college at Georgia State University in Atlanta, I was hanging out with a lot of music industry professionals who would eventually take me under their wing and assist me in developing my songwriting and vocal skills, as a recording artist. Which is very different than just sitting in your room rapping or singing…I learned so much and built amazing relationships with people that have shaped Hip Hop and R&B today.
After living in ATL, I moved to Ibiza, Spain and lived on the island for 2 years. This period of my life I was in the self-discovery phase and developing my persona in the music industry. It was, honestly, some of the best times in my life because I was able to focus on ME and work towards my artistry….the island and the music community showed me lots of love! From magazine covers to musical collabs, I was that girl! I trusted myself and the process.
Eventually I returned back to NYC, where I am now, and have been grinding ever since.
My brand is unapologetic and my art reflects that. I make music for those who don’t give f****.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a very dark moment in my life where I almost gave up on myself and on my music.
I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I’ve had to fight to get to where I am right now so, I’m no stranger to the struggle. But this particular moment was different because I was in an emotionally abusive relationship and during that time I was ashamed that I had allowed someone to break me as much as they did. I wasn’t releasing music like I am today. I wasn’t the person I am today. I was dead and hurting on the inside but I got out. I made it. Once I did, I put my head back up and got to work.
I speak on this because I want other women to understand that emotional abuse is abuse…period. And that they should get out and get help if they are dealing with that in a relationship. Never feel ashamed because of what someone else has done to you. A lot of us are afraid to tell people because there isn’t any physical evidence to show but please believe that those emotional and mental scars do just as much damage. So, if you are being abused (in any form) please seek help immediately.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to tell my story and give inspiration to other girls that look like me.
As black women, we go through so much and no one can really understand that unless you are a black woman. Society tells us that we aren’t beautiful, worthy, or capable but WE ARE. We are some of the most resilient people on the planet and I want to be an example of that for the little girl who has big dreams but may have the weight of the world on her back. I want her to know that I’ve been there and that I see you.
