Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Channing Moreland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Channing , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

I’m a mother, teacher and activist and children, freedom and love inspire me to create beautiful and impactful things to raise the vibrations and consciousness level on our planet.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The Marathon Mantras is a compilation of inspiring lyrical quotes from the music of Nipsey Hussle. The lyrics were selected to shine a light on positive messages and themes throughout Nipsey’s music.

His lyrics have the power to influence, uplift and positively shift the lives and futures of our youth. Nipsey’s legacy and spirit, as captured in this book, will help manifest his power, hustle and drive in our youth for generations to come. These manifestations can create a more positive and prosperous world community for and through the youth.

The loss of Nipsey Hussle is one of the most devastating losses of this generation, yet his legacy has the power to inspire and empower generations to come. The global outpouring of grief following the tragic loss of Nipsey displayed the undeniable impact of his cross-cultural influence.

As a middle school teacher I experienced the ability Nipsey’s messages have to connect with and empower young people. I created various lessons and classroom activities highlighting impactful themes and messages in his music. These experiences with my students fuel my desire to inspire, empower and enhance the future of our youth and our communities at large through his messages.

As a mother, teacher, writer, creatress and community activist, I feel compelled to highlight Nipsey Hussle’s words for our youth. I know that his messages possess the power to help guide so many in their ascension to success, while also reminding them never to compromise their authentic selves in the process.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

The process for creating this book over the last 4 years was fulfilling but arduous. One of my main focuses was reaching Nipsey Hussle’s brother Sam to get his blessing on the project. I was turned around and rerouted so many times and came across countless dead ends. I reached out to countless mutually parties and strangers in pursuit of reaching Sam. Mutual parties were unsuccessful and the strangers mostly ignored me. I attempted to track down business/entities and locations (it worked). I sent letters to one of his business locations, I did stake out type missions waiting for him to appear. Countless unsuccessful strategies and attempts, but I never gave up. Countless literally, but that one though, the one that worked made it all worth it and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I built the audience for the business via paid ads on pages with large audiences. The pages would post our meme about twin sisters publishing a book for Black girls. The books sold and the audience grew with each ad. I have no advice for growing now because I can’t keep up with the algorithm and platform changes. But I will say don’t give up, keep trying new strategies until one hits. & be prepared to pivot as necessary
