We were lucky to catch up with Channel Jamil recently and have shared our conversation below.
Channel, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned to create as an artist through a hands-on approach, always engaging in the process of doing. Early on, I immersed myself in the music I loved—especially hip-hop—constantly writing, experimenting, and learning by listening to artists and producers I admired. Over time, I expanded my taste to include a wide variety of genres, developing a broad musical palette. Art has been my passion since I was a kid, and this lifelong appreciation for it fuels everything I do.
Knowing what I know now, I would have focused more on setting realistic creative goals and working towards them consistently, rather than being held back by perfectionism. I’ve learned that being an artist is more than just creating—it involves understanding the business side too, like marketing, promotion, budgeting, and management. While I can apply myself in these areas, I’m fortunate to have a team of experts I collaborate with, including Out The Mud Marketing and Management, Spreadlove Photography, and 13 Entertainment Video and Film. I also work with a Non-Profit called A3pex, which enriches my creative journey.
When it comes to essential skills, production and engineering stand out. These are empowering for a music artist and can save a lot of costs. With these abilities, I know that if I can’t find the right sound, I can either create it myself or collaborate with other producers to make it happen, which is a major advantage.
The biggest obstacle I’ve faced is the pressure to make everything perfect. As a creative, there’s always mental noise that can hold you back, and it’s important to cut through it. Growth often requires stepping outside of your comfort zone, which I’ve learned to embrace over time.
Channel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Channel Jamil, and I’m an artist, producer, and engineer. I am the CEO of Dreamworld Ink, and I frequently collaborate with the production team FTB Music Group. My journey into the music business began with my love for creating music, a passion I’ve had since childhood. As I got older, I decided to take it seriously and turn that passion into my career.
I offer a range of services, including production, engineering, visual art, and music. As a producer, I focus on mixing, engineering, and production. As an artist, I create music that people can enjoy—music with good content and meaning.
What sets me apart is my adaptability and refusal to be confined to one creative box. I have experience and knowledge across multiple fields, allowing me to communicate effectively with different departments and draw inspiration from a wide range of sources. This gives me an edge, whether I’m producing, engineering, or working on visual art.
Currently, I’m working on an ambitious year-long project with FTB Music Group and Dreamworld Art called Lofi Vibes. It’s a collection of lofi music, with different audio and visual themes released daily. We’ve consistently released three projects each month, and we’re nearing completion of our goal. Our most recent milestone was the completion of the Jazzi-Fi series in September 2024. All the artwork for these projects was created through Dreamworld Art.
Also, keep an eye out for a new songbook being released by Dreamworld Art, coming soon to Amazon, titled DREAMWORLD: An All-in-One Guide to Unlocking Your Creative Power. This guide is designed to inspire and empower creatives, providing tools to spark ideas, boost confidence, and help you craft your best work. Whether you’re a songwriter, poet, or simply exploring your artistic side, Dreamworld is here to support your journey.
Let your biggest takeaway be the following phrases… Be inspired. Be encouraged. Be great.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the creative process itself. There’s something magical about starting with an idea and seeing it evolve into something far greater than I ever imagined. One of my favorite parts is when unexpected moments or random occurrences lead to new, inspiring directions. That element of surprise and discovery is what makes the journey so fulfilling.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When building my audience on social media, I focused on one platform at a time and remained consistent. Consistency is key. There are tools that can help you push content to multiple platforms at once, which can save time. While some of my pages have a larger following than others, I’ve learned that knowing your audience and telling a clear story is essential. When someone visits your page, they should immediately understand what you do just from reading your short description. There are other factors, but I believe these are the most important ones for anyone starting out.
