We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chanel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chanel , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero is my grandmother and the reason why is because she was the best person ever from her spirit her soul her beauty her smile the way she loved and help people. She taught me so many things she taught me how to love with all my heart she taught me how to don’t take life for granted to cherish everything moment how to respect people how to not judge people listen and understand that we all as humans go through things in life everyone has there on mission and we need to be understanding. She taught me how to bake. She taught me to give to others when they are in need. She taught me how to be a great mother to my children. And most of all she taught me how to be a Spiritual being. She has influenced me to be great and to be all I can be and to stay strong no matter what situation. And I love her for that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Mommie cakes I started my business back in 2017 with a 2 day bake sale me and my kids in memory of my grandmother who passed away I was selling my personal cakes within those 2 days I made $500 and I couldn’t believe I could make so much money doing something I did so naturally and from that day I never stopped now 6 years later I am world famous for my signature cakes and desserts you can find me on on platforms like Doordash Grubhub & Ubereats I am one of the number 3 best cakes in Tempe Az I have won so many awards for baking i cater to corporate events with big companies like Amazon frito-lay & ADP in Tempe and that’s just a few I have been in magazines. I fell what set me apart from any baker is there is only 1 me I have no competition because I am not in competition with no one everybody path is different and I am on my own journey of life. I am so proud of that fact that I’m still here going strong even with trails & tribulations I still stand with my head high and keep pushing. I would like for people to no that we are a family owned business me and my 5 kids we work hard to make this business what it is today and I am grateful and welcome any new clients thank you.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I started my business I was dead broke I didn’t have much but I was willing to take a chance on myself so I went for it.the best advice I can give is just go for it take the chance you don’t have to have money to start a business you just have to believe and have faith and trust god that everything will work out for the best. The first couple of years I never seen a profit the money I made went back into my business you just have to keep pushing even in the hard times. And I no it’s hard when you have a family kids responsibility comes first life happens but just never give up believe it see it imagine it in your head see your vision clear and when it’s your time god will work everything out for you. I’m a living Testimony.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When i started social media i had no followers i just posted pictures and videos and only got like 2 likes lol but it didn’t matter I was so passionate about my cakes I just keep posting pictures and videos. I noticed when I started to post better quality pictures more people engaged more likes I would get so I just keep that up I started to get more and more followers over the years. I also used promotions on social media that you would have to pay for but it worked it got my work on more people pages. After so long my platform grown so much on all my platforms like Instagram Facebook and my website I would just say keep it up keep posting everyday make people see your work and everything will work out for the best.
