We recently connected with Chané Michelle and have shared our conversation below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Chané. At my core I am an artist. I think that vocation describes me best bc I consider myself a creative but I also model in my free time. I graduated w a major in Fashion Marketing and Management and I’m currently working in my field an ASM at Lululemon so I’m no stranger to styling and style in general. I paint, I draw, I’ve been designing and sewing since I was 8 and though a lot of my interests lean more towards the materialistic realm of this human experience, I am very deeply absorbed in spirituality and what that journey looks like and means for each of us.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel very emotional sometimes. Sometimes I feel as if I feel more, or deeper, emotions than most people. As a result I tend to try and find outlets for my feelings. I have delve into design, painting, photography. I’ve made and sold my own chokers and eventually my own fragrance. I’ve had to pivot many times in my career to find the perfect balance between being an artist and loving what I do but also being a business owner and having my clients love what I do as well. In any which way I create, I have a strong support system that loves when I post and promote anything I’m selling.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn setting expectations. I used to post so much it would legitimately hurt if I didn’t get a certain amount of likes, comments or engagements. As an artist I cannot skew what I’m doing to just be about what other people might think bc it’s a miserable way to exist. I need an enough room to create with no bounds. When I do so, I tend to exceed my own expectations and create something divinely intervened. And I think that’s what sells, that’s what life is all about.
