We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chané Barlow a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chané , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own business! I knew that one day I would take that leap of faith and pursue my dreams. Although not knowing what field of business I wanted to enter, I asked myself: “What do you like to do and what could you see yourself doing?”. After much thought, I realized I wanted to become a wedding and event planner. I remembered when my husband and I were planning our wedding, I was a very hands-on bride that enjoyed the wedding planning process. I loved seeing the vision I had become a reality and I knew I wanted to give that feeling to others. In November 2019, I launched my wedding and event planning business! There’s nothing more gratifying than starting your own business.

I am the owner and lead planner of Get The Look Weddings & Events LLC. At Get The Look, we specialize in providing our clients the ultimate planning experience, where we strive to help bring our clients’ vision to life.
We not only love planning our clients” dream wedding or event, but we love building relationships with our clients! Building relationships not only eases stress for our clients but also makes the planning process an enjoyable experience! We love to be creative and versatile by working with different themes and styles for our weddings and events. When we say “Get The Look” of your dreams, we mean it! We offer three wedding planning packages, which meet you wherever you are in the planning process. We also offer planning services for social events and gatherings. Get The Look proudly serves D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Alabama & beyond!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clientele for Get The Look has been The Knot! As a new planner who launched their business in 2019, I had to use every advertisement avenue to market my company in an area overflowing with planners. I was then introduced to The Knot, a platform filled with wedding vendors for couples to research and select based on location. After much consideration, I decided to join The Knot and it has 100 percent helped my business flourish. A lot of my clients have found me on The Knot, and I am truly pleased with the traction I have received since listing my business on that platform. If you are having trouble getting leads, I highly recommend joining a wedding platform to gain more traction for your business!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our business recently expanded and added Alabama to its service locations. Entering a new market always has its challenges. We are currently in the process of introducing our business to the new market and making sure we get our name out to the masses. When entering a new market, it’s important to reach out to local vendors, tour venues and introducing your business to the locals. Building relationships with local vendors and venues will help draw attention to your business, which will essentially bring you future business.
