We were lucky to catch up with Chandra Jordan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chandra , thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
I worked for a very busy event venue at one time. We had a big wedding we were planning for quite a while. I had counted all the linen, chair covers, sashes, centerpieces, etc. at least three times and the day of the event at least 6 sashes were missing. I am not sure as to what happened to them, but I had to make something happen and fast. Fortunately, being a decorator myself I had similar decor in my private stash. I ran home and grabbed 8 sashes (2 extra just in case) in a very similar color and came back to the venue to added them to the room. So basically, whatever can go wrong will, go wrong. The best things you can do is always think on your feet and be as prepared as possible for emergencies that may arise. Oh, and a having a full tank of gas never hurts.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Chandra Jordan was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Georgia in 1988. After losing several loved ones to cancer she realized that she had no pictures of her own to remember them by. Her passion for photography developed once she received her first camera as a little girl and quickly learned that family events were a wonderful opportunity to get great photos of the people close to her heart.
Chandra received her BBA in Marketing from Kennesaw State University. During her college years she gained experience in the field of photography by accepting positions like portrait studio photographer and photo lab manager. She entered the business world of photography over 20 years ago beginning with personal portraits with just a point and shoot camera. She later upgraded to a professional camera after receiving numerous requests for her work on weddings, family portraits, and other events.
Chandra’s goals for the future are to be published in several national magazines, open a photography studio that caters to amateur photographers, and finally, become the director of photography for a major motion picture.
Chandra has blended her love of photography into many different talents such as graphic design, t-shirt printing, event planning/decorating and more. Thus making her a one stop shop for the majority of her small business clients which sets her apart from her competition.
Chandra has a lot of accomplishments, but she is most proud of the work she’s done that enriches the lives of her clients by creating moments that will last lifetime.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth has been the best source of new clients for me. People will always tell others about their experience with a business or vendor, if you do a good job or a bad job, either way they will talk. So my motto is do your best to own the narrative.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
In my line of work, I accumulate a lot of things such as props, centerpieces, decorations, and household odds and ends. I started a couple of online stores to sell these items.
