We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chandra “Cece” Heath a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chandra “Cece”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
When I jumped into the music industry.. I truly had know clue what I was in for. When I started back 2017 I noticed that I invested in artists more than they invested in themselves. I was seen as a mother figure . My business associate at the time introduced me to someone he looked as a bonus father . Well his bonus father had over 50yrs in the game . He was Roame Lowry Known as Maze from the legendary band “Frankie Beverly &Maze” he later became our mentor.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started in 2017 in Houston,Tx after relocating from my hometown Detroit. I’ve always had the love for the medical field as well as music . I’m not a singer or musician I just had a ear for music . While pursing a degree at one of Houston Local colleges . I met a young upcoming producer. I saw the behind the scenes of engineering and production that went into an artist craft. During that time I meant an talented aspiring rapper who was a Navy veteran .What I didn’t know he would be the real reason of the start of my artist management company to now label.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I would have to say communication and to allow your team to share their ideas and thoughts . Think outside the box and yes things may be uncomfortable and that’s ok . Ask for help allow others to help when needed . Stay focus and prayed up always because you’ll have some struggles and when you do learn from them and move on. Never forget about those who have supported you through your trails and tribulations. Stay grateful and humble .
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I used some of my savings and applied for many different grants that were offered for profit businesses . I’m grateful for funding from the big corporations that recognize the hardwork that I put into my Label.
