We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chandonae Baskin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chandonae below.
Chandonae, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I worked on was my short film After Dusk. It was a fantastic journey! I will never forget the stripes, blood, sweat, and tears that went into making this movie and getting it out there to the world.
My producing partner Chris and I knew we wanted to push ourselves as indie filmmakers hard and take our work to the next level. We knew it was going to be challenging, We knew about how much time it would take to complete something of this magnitude.
Some of the challenges that we faced was not having a lot of resources to work with. We decided to do a crowdfunding campaign and we hit 90% of our goal of raising about $6000. Everything else we needed came out of pocket. We also had a lot of our own stuff to help get this film made. The car for the main characters was ours and the car for the supporting actors was our Co-Producers, Matt.
Shooting at night is always difficult because everyone tends to get tired and that’s when you have to start dealing with mood swings and etc. It can be tricky to keep morale on set high, however, we wanted to keep everyone as comfortable as possible.
We executed every goal that we made for this project and at the end of the day, we are extremely proud! Our content looks really professional and intriguing. People have been sending DM’s from all over to work with us on our next project.
This project was most meaningful because it was one of my first times as a filmmaker going the distance with a project. There were so many moments that allowed me to build so much character, and skills improved and it definitely gave me something to talk about in future interviews because I have so stories of overcoming and leadership.

Chandonae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a filmmaker, my specialty is writing and directing. I have an AA in Fine Art, BA in Mass Communication with a focus in Media Entrepreneurship, and an M.F.A in Creative Media & Film. I had the opportunity to work with plenty of celebrities and worked on many productions.
I am also an entrepreneur, I just recently launched my indie film studio with Co-Founder Christopher James Smith “Story Collector Productions”. We construct gritty, vivid, and authentic cinematic experiences across film, television, and digital platforms.
I decided to start my own production company because I’m not waiting on anyone to provide me with an opportunity when I have the ability and resources to create my own and create opportunities for others. I just want to be the change that I want to see. I am very excited to start this indie production company because we can provide quality opportunities for people who are just as relentless as us with their art. Proud is not even the word to explain how I feel about this endeavor.
When people work with us they can expect quality, compelling cinematography, professionalism, great storytelling, diverse cast, and crew.
Expect great things from us!

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I believe that NFTs will disrupt the entertainment industry in the future. Right now people are scared because of all of the scams and lack of information. As we understand the blockchain and Web 3. o more, a lot of people are going to gravitate towards it. They are so useful for a lot of things. Giving fans the opportunity to own a piece of history is the concept of collectibles on crack. Some successful NFTs that I know of have given the ability for fans to make money as well.
I am so excited to explore this opportunity and how it will transform the space for indie filmmakers. I have heard of a moving selling on the blockchain and whoever brought it had to do the distribution for it along with a list of rules to follow to make sure that the. project see the light of day. Some people are already exploring this space and funding entire projects with NFTs.
People are going to be able to build unique connections with their audience around the world. It is very exciting to adapt and implement new technology.
I do recommend that people do a lot of research before buying NFTs.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is seeing an idea that once was pondering in your mind come into full fruition as a tangible product. It makes you more relentless and your desire to accomplish your goals easier because all you know you have to do is put in the work, trust the process and the rest will take care of itself.
Being able to use my platforms to tell stories that I care about that connect with other people is powerful. Good storytelling is very important to me. Collaborating with other people is one of my favorite things to do. It is truly amazing what you can accomplish with a good team.
